it seems to be having the same type problems

I think it depends on your hardware to be honest, on my old Athlon XP based pc Vista ran but after a while you really start to notice how much slower it is compared to XP on the same machine.

Vista is great on my new core 2 duo, it’s always been compatible with everything from day one, after a few months I was also able to get 64bit drivers for everything.
Having used every Windows os from 98 upwards I defiantly wouldn’t say Vista is another Windows ME.

What exactly is not compatible for you?

there has and always will be compatibility issues with new versions of windows. microsoft does not develop the drivers for devices to work with their OS, thats the job the the manufacturer of the product. so really, you cant blame microsoft for compatibility issues ( you CAN blame them for the monopoly tactics they use and the hoops they force manufacturers to jump though, as well as the fees they charge for the drivers to work with the OS though ).

that being said, windows ME was a joke. i was selling computers when ME came out (and ME was gone in a blink of an eye, i dont think it was on the market for 6 months). it was a very unstable OS, and had lots of processor power and memory allocation problems. i never even bothered to use it, i went from windows 98 to win2kpro, to winXP. the only reason i dont use vista now is simply a lack of need to switch.

bad PR and a shitty economy could make vista have the same fate as windows ME though, which is unfortunate, because i hear alot of good things about vista, and it is the start of a new generation of mainstream 64 bit OS's (and yes im aware of XP64, but note the word mainstream).

Vista from my experience is no where's near ME. I was doing a bit of work for a friend of mine the other day and he uses windows ME. (Good enough for him, he just plays games and uses MSN.) I was on there 5 minutes and I was like screw it, i'll just do what i need to do from the office. So no, Vista is not ME Reborn.

I remember Windows ME, you were lucky if you went much past 30 mins without a crash... I thought it was good at the time but I didn’t know about Windows 2000 back then

When Windows 7 comes out people will be bashing that and saying Vista is great.

You've hit the nail on the head with that one. I remember the exact same issue with XP and 98/2000 when XP came out. The message boards and forums lit up with massive amounts of XP bashing and how horrid it was compared to 98 and 2000 and how people would stick with those until either SP1 for XP came out or the next version (Win7) of Windows is released.

Vista is definitly not ME, I never actually used ME, but from the stories I heard from users it made 98 look rock stable. Vista is rock stable. Sure there are some hardware issues, mainly driver issues (not M$'s fault). Here at home I have 2 desktops, one is running Vista Ultimate 64 (the one I use) with no conflicts, no errors and I can leave it running for weeks between reboots. The other PC (the kids) has to run XP (SP3) due to a High Definition Audio device not being recognised by Vista. This machine can run Vista with no other issues, all hardware is recognised except for that one device.

To the OP:

Upgrade your hardware and you'll be fine. Otherwise stick with XP until 7 comes out as it's supposedly not going to have as high of hardware specs as Vista.

The only thing good about ME was the introduction of System Restore, all the win 95,98, me systems were a joke.

I went to NT4 and never looked back, by the time it had a few service packs it was just as 'multimedia' capable as win 95-98

Onto W2k, then XP, now Vista. A lot of the bashing was just MS bashing, it's fine as a system. If you have modern hardware.
