We did it! We hit 1,000 members only a week since finally opening, and a few months which we were beta testing. This is an incredible achievement but sadly this has left us a little confused...

Out of the 1,000+ members we have had sign up recently, only a handful (around 30) have ever stayed and made more than around 5 posts. Between our 1,000 members, they have created 490 threads, and 4,225 posts. That's equal to an average of 4 posts per person. But then again some members and staff have over 300 posts bringing that average down a lot!

When we created Digiex we took a step which very few forums have, allowing unregistered users to download attachments from the forum. When we did it, we knew we would lose out on thousands of members but we thought it was worth it as it allowed only members who wanted to post to sign up, and not sign up just to download something and never come back.

So what's honestly amazed us, is why on earth are you all signing up? We have created a poll on this thread to try and help us understand your motivation to spend around 5 minutes going through the sign up process. There must be a reason for it, did you expect more hidden around? Or did you do it just to play in the Arcade? We urge all members who havent posted to vote on this thread, you dont need to post to vote, so just vote! :)

And just a thank you for everyone who registered, when you signed up you had to write two words down which was shown in the picture. One of the words the system knew the answer to, the other it did not. The other image was in fact a scan of a book which is being digitalized for storage which a computer could not automatically read using OCR software. So we have helped work out over a 1000+ words! Every little helps.

Oops I voted the wrong option.
Also, there's a very obvious reason why this poll isn't going to be really successful. :P

I know the obvious, but I'm hoping a front page poll which doesnt need them posting might make a few of them bother with a few clicks ;)

Indeed. The only thing that needs registration is the Arcade to keep scores, but even that's not that popular.

Anyway it's not like this is a unique situation, you'll always get more people joining on a large community forum than actually stay and actively post. You just have to hope you'll keep growing from now on and while you'll gain many more inactive members, hopefully you'll get some active ones as well. :)

its a shame there are lurkers out there but that a problem that most forums get. theres very little you can do so the best way is to not get stressed about it.

I wouldn’t say it’s a shame, I know there’s been a few sites I’ve lurked on for over a year before finally joining or posting. It just seems we have a massive amount of signs up’s and were just curious as to the reason people signed up :)

I personally thought it might have been to get rid of the adverts shown to guests.

Im sure they went through the 5 minute process of signing up, filling out all there details, working out the text in the image, confirming there email and all that, just to hide the odd advert for there brief visit. I could install an Ad blocker quicker. ;)

But its still a mystery as to why we have such a high sign up, especially as now even the Arcade doesn't need membership to play. Nothing on this forum now requires an account to download or use. The only benefit of an account is the ability to post, and most arent.

Well Nimrod, considering that I did sign up because I found this site full of useful information. I have grown a little bit on the community. I don't post much, because I am a new user. But I do sign in about every day and check what goes on. I don't have much to say really, I just read and take into consideration on what the posts are about. Sorry you feel this way, I do agree. It is wrong to sign up to forums to d/l their files and never return because they've gotten that piece of information that they wanted. But You've got to take into consideration, this happens alot, and its the only way you will gain members. Some members will return because they found the site useful and they will possibly post, and be an active member in the Digiex community. Some members will d/l the files, and never return. But its how the world works nowdays. But just to let you know, I find this site very useful and the community is great. :D

I know double posting is against regulations of most forums, but considering that most forums now days require sign up to d/l files people have just gotten accustomed to signing up and d/l'ing because most of the forums that pop up on google require that kind of authentication to d/l. So its a habit of most web-surfers to sign up and d/l.

    Glad you enjoy the community!!

To be honest, I'd rather that a few people stay and post useful, interesting things, rather than have a lot of people posting shite. I know it's annoying, but we have to accept the fact that people are going to exploit the service we offer, but maybe we are better off without these people. I'm sure that eventually we will grow a lot more, as for people signing up and not posting, I'm pretty certain that a lot of people will only sign up to ask a question (say in the Red Alert 3 BETA thread) and then never bother coming back. As i said, maybe we're better off with the people who have stuck around and have something interesting to say.

The one thing I noticed about the Download Center though, is that after a while some of the threads get bumped off of the first page by the newer threads. Isn't there a way to list the downloads alphabetically or something to order them? It seems like we're just throwing stuff on a big pile here without keeping track of what's where.

You can order them alphabetically by clicking the thread link at the top

Edit - All sections of the download centre are sorted alphabetically and not by the last post, good suggestion, it’s now a lot more easy to navigate and looks less cluttered.

Oh that explains it. I thought I pressed something and the forum messed up for me. On the topic of these zero posters, I don't really know what to say. Maybe they're just keeping tabs on our website and will check in to see if there's a topic they might want to reply to or maybe even create something when they have more time? Either way at least Digiex seems to be doing better than last time so keep up the fantastic work members!

I stumbled onto this site looking for Left 4 Dead demo. I saw how helpful the post was so I decided to register! I hope to be part of this community soon. :]

(This is actually my first post hah.)
