We saw it coming didn’t we? Why pay $169 for PSJailbreak or even $30 for its clone x3Jailbreak when you can get it all for free? A group of hackers have successfully managed to clone and release open source version of PSJailbreak called PSGroove. What this means is that you will now be able to create your own PS3 (PlayStation 3) jailbreaks to replicate what PSJailbreak can do.

The PSGroove for now allows the very same features as the PSJailBreak but without backup manager support, you can also now remove the dongle.

All you ever have to do is to download the code which is available here for free, and then copy it over to a $20 USB development board (AVR HW) of your choice to get started ! Oh and there will soon be a way where you would be able to jailbreak your PS3 by either using a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch, or TI-84 calculator! How cool is that? [via Twitter]

Those who would like to help Digiex in the coming day's. (PS3 jail-breaker's) Please refer to this thread. http://digiex.net/digiex/general-cha...rs-digiex.html

Thank's to Dark Scyth for the head's up.

Digiex has managed to obtain some photos of the Kinect Beta Kit that Microsoft has recently shipped out to beta testers.

We had hoped to have the Kinect dashboard available for download, however it appears Microsoft have got wise and a copy of the dashboard update is no longer saved to the hard drive, like it was in previous dashboard betas.

So lets move on to the Kinect beta kit, the kit was sent out via UPS from Germany.

    The Kinect Box:

    The Kinect unit itself:

The USB extension cable for the Wireless Adaptor, you have to plug the wireless adaptor in to the front panel.

    Power lead:

We hope you enjoy the photos, be on the lookout for more exclusive Kinect content here at Digiex. A big thanks to Mr. Anonymous for the photos.

As of November 1, 2010 the price is increasing for Xbox LIVE for some members.
This price increase only affects Xbox LIVE Members in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom or the United States.

Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.

The Puerto Rico Association of Gamers is reporting that 100 copies of the highly anticipated Halo Reach have been stolen from a Microsoft Disc manufacturing plant in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Apparently the stolen copies are been sold on the street.

I was also told that a few people that bought illegally the discs were playing them in Xbox Live online. The next day, I was told, federal agents presented themselves to the persons house along with a security officer from the Microsoft Manufacturing Facility. They arrested at least one person and interrogated him as to how he had obtained the illegal copy. This was the rumor. It sounded like a story we have heard thousands of times.

Today while I prepared for my Gaming Update in El Circo Mega 106.9fm, I spoke with our news department and they contacted the press offices for the FBI and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). They neither confirmed, nor denied that there was an investigation in progress for theft at the Microsoft Manufacturing Plant.

Once I went on air about this rumour and the answer I got by the federal agencies I received a call from one of our listeners that confirmed the rumour. This person told us that a young man bought the original copy of Halo Reach from somebody in the street, went to work the next day and while at work his little brother logged in to Xbox Live and played the game online. The next day the agents and the security officer showed up at his doorstep and confiscated Microsoft’s property. The young man was also asked to name the person that sold him the disc (or as the agents put it: “tell us who sold it to you or you will face the full extent of the law and we will hold u totally responsible for these acts”) I have been told also that there is a total of 100 original copies of Halo Reach in the streets of Puerto Rico.

We spoke with a Microsoft Press Official in Puerto Rico and they said to have no comments on the matter for now.

An anonymous source inside the FBI confirmed the investigation to our news department in El Circo de la Mega 106.9 FM. This is a rumour, no more.

Digiex member P.KID has provided us with some footage of the new Dashboard update that will arrive this fall for all Xbox 360 owners world wide. The footage was originally uploaded to YouTube by a Kinect beta tester, however was quickly removed.

The video footage shows a few minor changes to the color scheme on the updated dashboard and better organisation for content that is available on Xbox Live.

What do you think? is the updated dashboard an improvement on the dashboard we have at the moment?

Its the time of the year again, myself and Nimrod have been giving the Digiex server a much required clean up over the last few weeks, everything is now moved over to one much more powerful server.

As we have the old server sitting about doing nothing for the next week we have taken the opportunity to create torrents of all the Xbox 360 demos that have been uploaded over the last year. Like the previous year we will seed the demos for 6 months before deleting them from our server. We think that is fair as we will have hosted most of the demos for atleast a year by the time they are removed from our server.

The torrents we created around a year ago are still going strong despite Digiex not seeding them since April this year. The reason for creating the torrents is that we simply do not have the space to keep 100's of gigs of Xbox 360 demos, torrents solve this problem by allowing anyone to contribute some bandwidth and hard drive space to keep the demos seeded so people can still download them if they wish to.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Andami, Dark Scyth, duke.dukem, FLeT91, KillerWhiteMan, Lexion, Safinn, Standby2 and xzKinGzxBuRnzx for the Xbox 360 demos they have uploaded to Digiex!

If anyone has some bandwidth and hard drive space free and want to help seed the new demo packs please feel free to do so, each new pack has 22 demos inside it and is between 11gb and 15gb in size:

    Xbox 360 Demo Pack #8
    Xbox 360 Demo Pack #9
    Xbox 360 Demo Pack #10
    Xbox 360 Demo Pack #11

As a little bonus we have also put together a pack containing a lot of Xbox 360 Arcade games never uploaded here: Xbox 360 Arcade Game Trial Downloads - Digiex Mega Pack #1

Here's to another year of many Demos.

TorrentFreak has made an interesting discovery, than the Iranian Government actively runs a warez server not just for its citizens, but for people worldwide. There Public FTP servers are hosting software including Windows, Office, Photoshop and more. TorrentFreak Reports:

In most of the western world the actions of the Iranian Government are often met with skepticism. Foreign governments get an uneasy feeling when Iran opens a nuclear facility, fearing it might lead to a nuclear arms program that would be an international threat.

Aside from nuclear issues, Iran has gained a bad reputation for censoring the public in its own country. These censorship issues reached new highs last year during the election protests, where the Government went as far as cutting citizens’ Internet access.

For copyright holders worldwide, the Iranian Government poses a significant threat. The country’s copyright law is set up to protect all copyrighted works produced by Iranians, but not those by creators from other countries.

Since 2001 Iran has been a member of the WIPO, and has acceded to several WIPO intellectual property treaties. However, the Iranian Government never signed the WIPO copyright treaty and other international copyright agreements that would make copying of foreign products unlawful.

This means that Iranians can share movies, music and applications as much as they like, as long as the copyright is not owned by an Iranian. In fact, even Government agencies actively help to distribute these works among the public, most notably the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST).

From a publicly accessible FTP-server Iranian citizens have free access to a wide range of software, including multiple versions of Microsoft Office (97 to 2010) and Adobe’s Photoshop (5.5 to CS3). All the ‘pirated’ files come complete with serials, cracks and keygens and can be downloaded for free.

To make the search for new warez even more convenient, all the files are neatly categorized in folders. Those looking for image editing software should take a look in the ‘Graphics’ folder which includes Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere and dozens of other titles.

Iranian web-designers should definitely take a look in the ‘Web Design’ folder, and the ‘Multimedia’ folder is of interest to those looking to play, burn or convert video and audio files. TorrentFreak’s personal recommendation is the ‘Screensaver’ folder, which includes beautiful waterfall and aquarium animations.

Again, all of this is perfectly legal to download, for Iranians at least. Luckily Iran is full of bright and young people who are eager to learn but don’t always have the means to pay for software. For some of them free software is the path to a better life for them and their families
    Source: TorrentFreak

As much as I wish our Governments would host downloads like that for us, the truth to the matter is that software like Photoshop, Office and such couldn't exist without having a company behind it, which is paid for by sales of its software. Is this the one benefit you get for living in Iran and putting up with all the internet censorship?

The Sega Dreamcast, what a console. It launched back in 1998 and ended up being discontinued in 2002. The console continued to officially get support and repair up until 2007 when Sega finally decided enough was enough.

Back in the day, Microsoft could have saved it, but during talks about adding Dreamcast support to the new Xbox, it ended up breaking down and not happening. (How different would things be now do you think if the Dreamcast continued on the Xbox platform?)

Kotaku reports that the Dreamcast however, is still alive and kicking, and getting new games over 3 years since its maker stopped supporting it in any manner:

Throughout the last decade, the console continued to get new games — from licensed developers in Japan and homebrew developers in the West.

At the recent Gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany, developer RedSpotGames had Dreamcast demo kiosks placed proudly between the Xbox 360 and the Wii demo kiosks.

RedSpotGames has published Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles, a puzzle game developed by a Costa Rica-based studio, in 2008 and Rush Rush Rally Racing, a top down racer, last fall.

Other developers and publishers continue to work on Dreamcast titles. Even in 2010, when we are well on into the console lives of the current gen, the Dreamcast keeps on keeping on. Dreamcast games have found a home on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 as games are hitting the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this fall.

The Dreamcast's pulse is faint, but make no mistake, the console is still alive.
