Ubuntu have managed to turn your average android smartphone, into your average linux pc. However, it's only for when you have your phone docked. This is not the first coversion of it's sort, as handsets such as the Motorola Atrix have tried, and failed, to turn smartphones into computers when connected to laptop docks. Although, Ubuntu have successfully made a platform that can be run accross computers, phones and connected T.Vs.
When it is docked, it will act like your conventional PC, allowing you to run basic linux programs. It will initially be a file that can be installed on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and will replace android.

This mobile linux will provide a 'distinctive' smartphone interface, meaning apps are more integrated and incorporated into the system. "Ubuntu uniquely gives handset [makers] and mobile operators the ability to converge phone, PC and thin client into a single enterprise superphone," a spokesman said.
The founder of Ubuntu, Mark Shuttleworth, is even in talk with companies about trying to get Ubuntu pre-installed in future sold devices, hopefully within the year.
“We expect Ubuntu to be popular in the enterprise market, enabling customers to provision a single secure device for all PC, thin client and phone functions. Ubuntu is already the most widely used Linux enterprise desktop, with customers in a wide range of sectors focused on security, cost and manageability. We also see an opportunity in basic smartphones that are used for the phone, SMS, web and email, where Ubuntu outperforms thanks to its native core apps and stylish presentation,” said Jane Silber, CEO of Canonical.

This new operating system will be showcased at this weeks CES show in Las Vegas
