To put that in perspective, the game itself has an install size of around 19.9GB. Microsoft has yet to release a changelog or patch notes for the update, which appeared over the weekend, but I'd imagine it has something to do with this month's Operation Broken Eagle DLC. The latter will cost $9.99 or £7.99, offers nine new achievements for a total of 90 Gamerscore, and is the story of Spec Ops Commander Adam Kane, who must locate and capture the President of the United States.

Update: We now have something in the way of patch notes, care of an Xbox Wire interview with executive producer Josh Bridge about Operation Broken Eagle - the DLC is out tomorrow. For starters, the update adds new Impulse Trigger features to the game. "We use them as an indicator that, say, your gun is about to run out of ammo," said Bridge. "So, as you start to near the end of the clip, that right trigger will start buzzing to make you aware that it's about to run out.

"We did that across weapons as well as vehicles. If for some reason you can't tell from the smoke and flames coming out of your vehicle, you'll also be given that haptic feedback in case you don't have time to look at the HUD or whatever. You can really feel more connected to the experience so as not to pull you out of the immersion."

In terms of fixes, the update targets the problem of food or weapons being impossible to pick up when grouped with other items. It also apparently nobbles "some issues with blueprints and PP-related achievements and trials" that don't unlock properly depending on the order in which you attempt them.

Expect "various performance improvements" to help "tighten up the gameplay experience" when there's a lot of stuff going on - e.g. several explosions happening at once. Last but not least, the update addresses a number of unspecified "stability issues".

"We've been actively engaging and monitoring fan reaction and feedback on the game," Bridge added. "And it's really important that even though we've shipped the game and got it out to gamers, we want to make sure it's a fun experience and nothing's getting in their way.

"After release and through the holidays, we've been putting together a large update list. It's in reaction to everything we could find and we've actually been directly reaching out to fans who've encountered issues. I think that's really neat, because it's an indication of how game development has changed. We have a direct connection through social channels now. There's an ease of access for us to listen to our fans and reach out to them.

"It's not just about making a game and getting it out to them, it's about making sure they're still having a lot of fun even after it's out."

Original story continues - As reported by The Escapist, the update is mandatory for online play. Thankfully, the download file doesn't actually take up 13GB of space once installed - according toXbox.com forum members, it overwrites a lot of data. Together with the previous update, you should end up with a total game install size of around 25GB.

Buy the game's Season Pass, and you'll get four Dead Rising 3 DLC packs for $29.99 or £23.99 - the other three are Fallen Angel, Chaos Rising and The Last Agent. Let's hope they aren't also accompanied by 13GB patches.

The patch size is a joke, we have gone from patches that are a couple of mb, to ones twice the size of most last gen games.

Not that i own the game however i hope this does not become a trend, Xbox Live downloads have become extremely slow on the Xbox One.

This is nothing compared to Defiance. It takes so many hours just to get into the game with it. On a decent connection this will download and install quicker than Defiance!

Oh indeed, when i got my Xbox One i downloaded all 30gb of Forza 5 in less than an hour, however since then download speeds have got as slow as the Xbox 360 i've found.

The 3gb update for Killer Instinct recently took me over an hour to download, going by that average a 13gb update would take 4+ hours.

I guess thats what the background downloading when the console is off is far, sadly i only really use my console on weekends so its switched off at the plug all week.

What I don't get is most of this is adding the content from the DLC into the game.

Now, I see why some of it needs to be in the base game (as the items from the DLC can be used in multiplayer with other players without the DLC) but the actual new maps / campaign story do not need to be included at all. Surely they should be separate downloads for when you purchase the DLC like on Xbox 360? Instead if you buy the DLC it's just a license now to unlock the content in the base game which everyone has to download, regardless if you own the DLC or not.

Seems a silly way to patch really.
