For the love of god, can someone just get my the Fight Club and any other missing DLC before it's gone forever?
GamerScoreBlog has published a Letter from Marc Whitten about the discontinuation of Xbox LIVE for Original Xbox Games.
Dear Xbox LIVE Members,
On April 15 we will discontinue the Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games, including Xbox v1 games playable on Xbox 360 and Xbox Originals. I want to start by saying this isn’t a decision we made lightly, but after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community.
Seven years ago we laid out our vision for the connected console when we launched Xbox LIVE. We believed then that the power of the Internet to connect people would revolutionize living room entertainment. It started with amazing multiplayer games, and we’ve since seen that bet pay off again and again with the launches of Xbox 360, Marketplace, Netflix and powerful social features like Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. None of this would have been possible without the success of LIVE as a multiplayer gaming network.
There’s no greater example of the power of the Xbox LIVE community than the “Halo” franchise. “Halo 2” has had an amazing run on LIVE, with a dedicated community more than five years after launch and well into the next generation of consoles. It has fundamentally changed the way we play video games. And while it’s difficult to see that run come to an end, the “Halo” franchise continues to act as the benchmark for multiplayer gaming in this generation, with “Halo 3,” “Halo 3: ODST” and soon “Halo: Reach” on Xbox 360.
Your Xbox LIVE community has grown to 23 million strong. And as we look down the road, we’ll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360. To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games. We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities. We view you as a partner in this process.
We’ll share more details soon, but in the meantime I want to assure you that the best is yet to come for Xbox LIVE. I believe we’ll look back on 2010 as a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment, and I couldn’t be more excited about what we have in store with “Project Natal” and LIVE. The LIVE community is the driving force behind everything we do, and it’s because of the community that ground-breaking experiences on Xbox continue to be possible.
See you on LIVE,
Marc Whitten

The dedicated Halo 2 players are sure going to be owned by this. On the other side, dropping LIVE support for the original Xbox just because it's becoming 'old' doesn't seem logical to me. It's true that a lot of news is planned for the upcoming 'Natal Era' though, basically any Xbox 360 related LIVE feature from the start of it's launch has been incompatible with the original Xbox. Think about gamerpics and the rep system. Why change that now? I don't believe the new changes will impact the way gamertags are registered, I don't even believe it will make drastic changes to the way profile data is stored and syncronized.
So yes, it's more like they want to 'clean the dust' for Natal.![]()

Are you playing Jazz Jackrabbit 2? If so talk to me whenever you want so that we can 'roast' a few. ;p
Also add me on Xbox Live if you want to play some GoW, UT3, or Halo3.
Epic and CliffyB, we want a new Jazz3!!

To be honest, I thought this was what the whole Xbox Live monthly fee was for.
To keep game servers online. I laughed at all the PS3 owners and PS2 Owners who had online services for games withdrawn after a year or two, and now for this to happen to Xbox, (even though its been like 7 years) is still a big disappoint.

Like we say here in holland: da's zwaar kut!
But on the other hand, techonology doesn't stop and they have to go to push on thru @ micro$oft... The XBOX originals are already quite a few years old remember and they are just doing a bit housecleaning!
We are Furrys, with dignity and pride. We are free no one can touch us, no one can force us to deny what we are believing in no one can destroy our feelings, our love.
All of us are walking through the world with eyes open with purpose in our step. Sometimes we even abandon society only to embrace this Furry thing to be ourselves.
I really didn't think they would close Xbox Live down for the original Xbox games, some games such as Halo 2 are still very popular.
Its not a massive loss to me as the only original Xbox game I have played on live is Halo 2, which happens to be the most popular Xbox game on Xlink Kai anyway... plus i own the PC version which you can play for free on Live anyway.
It's no loss for me either, I'm currently not playing any original Xbox games online. It just feels strange that there are still players, especially in the Halo 2 community, who didn't decide to move on to Xbox 360 and Halo 3, yet still paid the monthly fee to play online without doubt. I can imagine that you'd feel kinda ripped off by Microsoft if you are one of those.
I do like a lot of products and services from Microsoft, and I know tech has to move on, but there's simply no social or technical reason to shut their old LIVE servers down.
