Bluetooth Adaptor (BCM2046) Driver for Windows XP SP2/SP3

Chances are you just reinstalled your computer to remove all the junkware thats included with PC's and you want to get your bluetooth dongle working without all the bloatware. Well with this package, you can use your BCM2046 bluetooth adaptor in Windows using the built in bluetooth stack. I have created and tested this myself on my new Dell Mini 9 which I reformatted to clear the Dell junk off.

What I have done is modified the Bluetooth driver file that comes with XP SP2/SP3, to include this dongle by adding its hardware ID to the supported devices list.

Before you can install this, you must make sure you have updated your XP to at least Service Pack 2, as this included the Bluetooth Support Addon.

To install, download and extract all the files somewhere, like for example on your desktop in a folder called Bluetooth drivers. Then plug the stick in, Windows will fail to find the drivers and ask you to either provide a location for them, or provide a CD. Provide the location and give Windows the folder location of the extracted drivers. Windows will now install the drivers and your Dongle will be ready for use.
You should now be up and running with the Windows Bluetooth Interface, which you can find in Control Panel or in the System Tray.

You have now got your Bluetooth Adaptor to work fully without having to install bloatware like WIDCOMM bluetooth stack.

    Widcomm and Nokia PC Suite

Bought a Dell Mini and I absolutely love this machine. I did discover, however, that the Widcomm Software that comes preinstalled on it is not compatible with Nokia PC Suite. I thought I was going to have to hack or tweak something (I hate that stuff) but, thanks to you, I was pleasantly surprised.

I uninstalled the Widcomm Software through add/remove programs and rebooted. The Mini found the Bluetooth module and reinstalled it but it wouldn't work. I downloaded this driver, unzipped the files, went into the device manager and told the Bluetooth module to update the driver, directing it to the new driver. The driver installed successfully and Nokia PC Suite now works great. No hacks required!

    Woohoo!

Glad it works, I also use it with the Nokia PC Suite for SMS'ing and Internet Sharing. :)

Also many thanks for taking the time to register to share your experiences, most people only sign up to moan if it doesnt work, its good to hear from people who have found this useful! :)

I've just signed up because I have an issue with this driver - I guess that makes me a moaner - sorry :)

Anyway, I have a weird issue that has me stumped. I have installed this driver (on a clean XP Pro SP3 mini) and use Bluetooth to tether my mobile (for internet browsing), Whilst I can ping sites fine, my browsing is exceptionally slow - sites take minutes to load.

If I then install the original Widcomm driver it all works fine!

Now, could this be something to do with MTU settings?

    Hi,
i've sony fw21e and tried to setup this driver (xp+sp3).
Now, whenever i click the 'Start the Bluethooth Device' it won't work and there appears an error message saying that there's a license problem (license check failed).
How can i find an appropriate driver?

I had the same problem, a simple google search yields a solution: Broadcom Corporation - Bluetooth Software Download

Hi! I have an Dell Mini 9. In my case the widcomm software that comes preinstalled on it is not compatible with PowerCad SiteMaster 3 software and a bluetooth device Leica Disto A6. I have installed this driver and, finally, it works! Thank you!

    Hello,
I'm having A problem with this process. I get the Widcomm software uninstalled, the new driver downloaded and unzipped, but when I attempt to update the driver, the wizard says "the wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed." It then offers to let me keep the current software or search again.

Any idea what I'm missing? Is there something further I should be uninstalling?

You say you removed the Widcomm software but did you remove the Widcomm drivers for the device?

You would do this in device manager.

Lenovo S10 Bluetooth with MS drivers - Solved

    Hi,

I wanted to install the Microsoft drivers posted by Nimrod on my new Lenovo S10 Netbook to get rid of the horribly buggy and bloated Widcomm drivers that came pre-installed.

The Lenovo S10 uses the same Broadcomm BCM2046 hardware as the Dell Mini 9, unfortunately the drivers posted above did not install. When follwing the procedure Windows displayed a message that it cannot find any drivers in the location where I extracted the files.

Solution is that you need to edit the hardware ID in the BTH.INF file in the folder where you extracted the files. Here the instructions :

    - download and extract the file posted by Nimrod
    - open the BTH.INF file with notepad
    - go to line 78 which is
    Generic Bluetooth Radio= BthUsb, USB\Vid_413C&Pid_02B0

    change the last part to
    USB\Vid_0A5C&Pid_2150

    - Save the file and then continue with the procedure described by Nimrod, now Windows will find the drivers, install them and they work perfectly on the Lenovo S10 !

You can do the same thing for any other notebook / netbook with similar hardware, just find out the hardware ID you need to use in the BTH.INF file in the device manager in the properties of the Bluetooth Device.

    Hope this helps some users...

If the Bluetooth Adaptor in the HP is a BCM2046 I don’t see why it won’t.

You most likely have some firewall such as Norton interfering with your connection.

If you really can’t get it to download as the file is so small message me your email address and ill send it you.

Tank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

I’ve been trying to get my BT to work as it's supposed to for several months now, and thanks to this I’ve now got it working. Before I couldn’t get my phone and laptop to automatically connect when in reach. I’ve tried both Widcomm and Bluesoil. But as I wrote this got it working!

But today I discovered a problem. This driver hack doesn’t support the service remote access (DUN). So far I’ve just spend an hour looking for the reason, but as I understand there is something missing in my computer. There should be a thing in device manager under BT-unit called RFCOMM-protocol TDI, but it’s not there.

My laptop can discover the service on my phone but can’t connect to it. Every time I try, the error message “Access denied” occurs.
And if I look in my phone what services my laptop provides it only says serial port and personal network.

Anyone know how to fix this problem? I absolutely don’t want to switch back to Widcomm!

I have a Belkin BT dongel based on BCM2046 chip, and got it working with this driver by adding the line
    "BLUETOOTH USB +EDR ADAPTER v2.1 UHE= BthUsb, USB\Vid_050d&Pid_016a"
    to bth.inf

Found the soulution to my problem!

The BT-service must be running as server not as lokal as it is by default. You can change it in controllpanel - services...

Once again, thank you for helping me!!!
