No, just make sure you have iTunes installed. Then just plug in your device and hit "Make it Ra1n" it will do the rest automatically.

I have and ipod 2 g with OS 3.0 and i have itunes 9 and i tried the blackra1n and it finished but when i look at my ipod i don't have the blackra1n app in it. i know i have 3.0 because i have the bluetooth symbol in the lop left corner of the screen on my ipod. What should i do?

I have the 2nd generation 8gb touch and i downloaded > extracted iPod Touch 2G 3.0 Gold Master Final - iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw to my desktop.
I currently have the 2.1.0 FW and everytime i try to update the FW it load for a while then i get an error message "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14)"

Any solutions?

error 14 (according to Apple's website) means there was an issue with the USB. I had the same error and just switched ports and it worked fine.

And btw it says invalid version or somthing when i use the 1st gen one
