Digiex Exclusive: Xbox 360 NXE 2.0.8955.0 With Avatars Dashboard Download

    Information:
This one is just like the update you would download from Xbox LIVE, however it is an offline install. This dashboard update mainly serves users who dont have Xbox Live and would still like to keep there console's somewhat up-to-date.
    • WPA 2 Support for the wireless adaptor
    • Disables hard drive installs for banned consoles (maybe more, some people report their consoles can no longer be used as a media centre and that there profile and saves are corrupt when used on another console)
    How to install:
1.) Extract the contents of $SystemUpdate_Fall09_8955.zip
2.) Put the $SystemUpdate folder in the root of a CD or USB Stick (Must be FAT or Fat32 formatted)
3.) Insert the CD or USB Stick into your Xbox 360 console.
4.) You will be automatically prompted to update with a USB stick, with a CD / DVD it should say Mixed Media Disc, power down the 360 and power it on again. You should be ask to update before the 360 boots to the dashboard.
5.) Once the update is complete your Xbox 360 will restart then boot up to the new dashboard. Enjoy!

I have created a video to try and help those of you who are having problems:

NXE Update 2.0.8955.0 Dashboard With Avatars

This is the latest official release with avatars.

Want to update your console and keep the homebrew exploit?
In this case you want the 7371 update from June 2009, this is the last update before the Jtag hack was fixed.

"Disables hard drive installs for banned consoles (maybe more, some people report their consoles can no longer be used as a media centre and that there profile and saves are corrupt when used on another console)"

This only applies to consoles that have been banned in XBL, right?

Yes, I don’t have a modded console so can’t be 100%, if you read the latest posts over at Xbox-Scene that’s what everyone is saying.

If your console is not banned you have nothing to worry about.

    Hi!

Let me start off by saying that I really appreciate you guys making these updates avaliable for us. Since I'm an offline user at xbox 360, and do not wish to go online at all, these offline-updates are worth gold for me!
But... As always, where the solution is hiding, a problem is also present..

I got my last update from this site, and just followed the instructions to make it work as it should, and so it did! (That was the NXE 2.0.8498.0.) However, now I need to update my dashboard once again. So i found your site, just as the previous time I made an update, and followed the instructions exactly, once again. Only this time, the update won't prompt when i put the burned update-cd in the box! I am desperate for your help, cause I really can't get it to work. I burn the "$SystemUpdate" folder onn the disc, as a data-disc. Tried with both cd-rw disc, and dvd-rw disc. As I remember it this was exactly how I made it work with the last update, so I am really in need of help with this.. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Maybe someone had a similiar issue?

I am very grateful for any help with solving this, so please tell me all you can!

    Thank you! // Patrik

Have you tried using a USB FD to apply the update? it's better coz it doesn't waste your cd's in case the xbox doesn't read it.

No, I have only tested cd/dvd-discs.. But the problem isn't that the xbox don't read the disc, the problem is it just says: "Mixed Media Disc" and I get no update-prompt, as I should. Can it have something to do with me using RW-discs for this? As soon as I come over an USB or regular DVD-R/CD-R I will test that, but would be nice to know what I'm doing wrong..

Thanks though, and again, I'm very glad for any reply that could help me!

What program did you burn the disc with? Also did you finalise the disc?

Try with ImgBurn, we have a guide for burning files and folders with ImgBurn here: https://digiex.net/programs/1251-how-burn-files-folders-cd-dvd-blu-ray-disc-using-imgburn.html

For step 5 in the guide say no then try it again in your 360.

Obvious question but I presume you didn’t install one of the beta dashboards which is newer then 8955?

    Good luck!

    1. I always use ImgBurn!
    2. I wait til the burning-process is finished, and the disc pops out automatically, so I assume the finalisation is made at that point? Never had a problem with burning discs, and getting it to work, that I could'nt solve by myself before..
    3. No, the update i am desperately trying to install is this one! (NXE 2.0.8955.0 With Avatars Dashboard). The one i have right now on my xbox is 2.0.8498.0, so I need this update.

I should also mention that i tried using a USB-memory too, earlier today, but nothing shows up on the screen when i put it in the xbox.. Maybe i haven't done it right, cause I do not understand this FAT Formatation some guys are talking about.. Please help me!

Okey, I feel like a real noob for begging you all for help constantly, but would appreciate it greatly!
Did the FAT-Format on the USB-Memory and tried all over again, but still, no prompt for update.. Damn!

With the cd did you re start the Xbox 360 after it came up as a mixed media disc?

I’ve made a video which might help people see where they are going wrong, hope it helps.

Yes, i did restart the Xbox 360, multiple times, but i really can't get it to work! Damn, some games i would love to play, but cannot without this update.. I'll check the video and see though!
Ps. Could it have something to do with the fact I made a FAT-formatting, instead FAT32? But still, the CD-update should work...

Thanks alot InsaneNutter for this update, it really could be the best solution for me since all games from Novemeber requieres this update ( and i am not xboxlive user). Just a question: this update will work/compatible with PAL consoles or only NTSC?

    Thanks in advance!
