Ok, one day I was editing a picture and uploading 4 videos on YouTube, when suddenly...

Except without the Debug button (I couldn't take a screenshot since the freaking OS stopped).

It also stopped the uploading process :(

After clicking Don't Send, this came up:

I was like "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?"

I tried to open other programs, but it did nothing. So I used Task Manager to open Google Chrome, but it froze the whole system!

I also checked the processes, and explorer.exe was still alive, but I couldn't do anything.

What the heck is the problem!?!?

Hmm, something similar happend to me. The second screenshot wasn't there, but Explorer died and screwed over my entire PC. My C Drive deleted itself.. gone! Poof! Pissed me off... One of the other guys might know exactly what your problem is though!

Explorer.exe crashes sometimes. If it happens again, end all remaining explorer.exe processes and use task manager to start up another, it should reload your desktop.

Looks like I'm not the only one, Windows is acting VERY VERY weird the last couple of days, like freezes, lock-ups and more of that!

    Couple of things.

    1. Your using XP, ensure that your AV is up to date and do a full scan
    2. Your using XP, how long since a fresh install? May be time to do another.
    3. Your using XP :P Put up with it and install 7 when it's released

Honestly, no funny business, you may also want to run a chkdisk on the OS drive especially if this is happening on a regular basis. It may be very possible that the drive has bad sectors and needs to be replaced/fixed.

I'm using avast!, and its up-to-date.
Since the fresh install, maybe around Dec 2007 or Jan 2008.
I'm using a laptop, and I'm worried that the drivers for my laptop might fail to install on a different OS.

I haven't done a scan yet, but I will now.

Explorer crashing has nothing to with it being a windows XP system. There are a few possible reasons for it to misbehave like this, malware(run spybot S&D), bad memory(run memtest) or bad drivers(did you change any recently? maybe try updating some). Now it could have just been a freak occurance, this happens from time to time.

But to attribute this to Windows XP and to imply that Windows 7 would behave differently is wrong. All OS' get bugs, it's part of the human error and that every computer is unique.

Must have been a freak occurrence since this happened only once. I'll bump this thread when it happens again (if necessary).
