i use a 8800GTX video card in my computer. lately i have been having issues while playing "advance" games so to speak. when i start up guild wars, the video/graphics go slower than normal, and the audio cracks and my entire computer seems to slow down. however, if i even minimize the window, everything goes back to normal. i notice audio cracking while refreshing firefox pages while watching something in vlc. my power supply is an apevia iceberg power 680W with 2 6 pin connectors, both of which i have connected to my video card. with my old power supply, if i unhooked everything from it with the exception of my watercooler, motherboard, hd, and video card, the problem would go away and i could game as normal with awesome performance. in addition, reseating my video card (taking it out and putting it back in) also works. two days ago i resat my video card, which only created another host of problems, but once i got it back in and fixed the problems, i could game just fine. i came home the next day and explorer had crashed to the point to where i could not shut it off, so i forcibly restarted my computer, and alas the issue reappeared. right now my only option is to reformat my harddrive and possibly load vista on it, and if that doesnt work im forced to believe that my beloved video card has a fault and needs to be RMAed. when i sent a question to customer support they recommented getting rid of my overclocked processor (a 2.4 at 2.57), however this does not seem like a processor fault, is it?

any help will be greatly appreciated as i miss my beasts performance [IMG]

just a brief edit... i have guild wars up on the login menu in window mode and this problem, whatever it is, it slows down my entire computer... itunes, audio, anything and everything, even the time on my computer... im using the evga precision monitoring tool and it reports that i am getting 30-40 fps, my current cpu usage is 34%, and its temperature is 91 degrees Fahrenheit. my video card is at 70 degrees celcius (its not overclocked or anything it just runs incredibly hot) and my ram usage is 1.38 gb out of 3.25

    thought this might help

yet another edit: i undid the overclocking on my system (i had the bios do it for me so it wasnt anything i didnt know how to do) and still no improvement lol)

What makes you think it's a videocard issue? Have you tried formatting your HD? In the past I experienced my computer locking up from sometimes and I recognize the slow performance for no apparent reason. Also explorer locking up. For me the problem was that my computer got too hot and so is yours as you are mentioning. Try clearing your PC of dust if you have not already done so, if that doesn't work try keeping it cool and see if that gets rid of the problem.

well its just the video card thats overheating... i run the fan at 100% and it doesnt go down past 130 degrees Fahrenheit.. my cpu is liquid cooled and i think 91 degrees is wonderful for a quad core lol

I think the problem might be the temp’s on your graphics card, 70 degrees is extremely hot, I have an 8800GT and my temps are not that high. As the card is getting so hot it could be underclocking its self to try and reduce the heat, when this happens you will loose FPS in games like your saying. The 7900GT in my brothers pc is currently getting too hot when playing games and that’s causing all sorts as problems such as low fps’s in games, crashes and random graphics corruption on the screen.

Also you post temps in both Celsius and Fahrenheit are you sure processors temp is 91 degrees Fahrenheit and not Celsius, if it was celsius that would be way too hot ;)

Everest is a good program for monitoring temps of your system, you can get a trial here: Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

Make a note of the temps of everything when your system is started up (from being off for an hour or so) and the temps when you start having problems.

lol i know im not confusing the two temperatures

and the problem starts immediately upon startup, whether its been off for awhile or just restarted

and its not just im losing fps, its slowing my entire computer down

Your new power supply could be faulty, or one of the components you unplugged could be giving you a problem. Try only having plugged in what you did there and see if the problem still happens.

I presume you're spyware, virus and trojan free? Use msconfig and disable anything from starting up that’s not needed. It could be a windows problem or your computer is unstable because of the graphics card getting too hot.

Its unlikely but I've had computers in the past where the motherboard has been failing causing system instabilities, again as unlikely as it sounds, you're in to extreme overclocking so you might have pushed something too far…

Do you have another graphics card you can try in your system? Or maybe borrow a friends for a day and see if you still get any problems?

If you the warranty is still good, send it back for a replacement. If not,try adding thermal compond to it. What was on it may be evaporated or dryed up causing more heat. I've had this problem before! Also make sure your specs are good enough for that game and that your drivers are all up to date. You can find some beta drivers for ATI-NVIDIA here.

I would try Speedan (tool). Configure it to work withyour GC and make the fan spin at 100%, then stress it and you will see, whats wrong in the log file.
