You need to open port 21 in your router, if you have done that your isp could be blocking it so use a random port.

Just one thing InsaneNutter, I don't use a router. My cable modem goes straight into my wall! ;)

this has nothing to do with your problem, but i always use a router, even if i only have 1 computer to connect, simply because it allows you to manipulate your connection in more ways than the cable modem (might not be totally true, but is completely true if you switch cable modems and keep the same router), and it also provides an additional firewall and the availability to share that connection.

i like to have the option to share the connection, cause it kinda sticks one to the man. the cable companies want you to pay for multiple connections. =)

    arbitrary anarchy FTW!!! =D

You don’t even need to open any ports then, just make sure your firewall allows the ftp server to listen for connections and it should be fine.

Even if I only had one computer I would have a router too, we have so many devices connected to our router now.

Cable companies here often give you a free router, never heard of paying more to connect addition computers. You could used to pay £5 extra to get an addition IP for Xbox Live but that’s kind of pointless as it’s not needed.

Well I've tried a few different freeware severs now and they're all saying the same thing. Port 21 isn't opened. Could somebody please tell me how to tell my firewall to open that port? I use F-Secure. But that's only because it's free from my cable company! ;)

I don’t know how to open the port in Fsecure as I’ve never used it, look in Fsecure for a list of programs that are blocked and try and allow the FTP server.

You're going to think I'm nuts but I've tried that too. Still nothing. *shrugs
Oh well, I guess I just wasn't meant to have an FTP server. Thanx anyway.

Run it on a random port, chances are your isp blocks servers running on port 21, try a random one such as 8563.

You're not going to believe this but that didn't work either. Oh well, like I said before, we tried. I guess I just wasn't meant to be a server. Thanx anyway.

That's awfully nice of you except for one thing. I'm as American as baseball and apple pie and all I've got are green backs! ;)
