I bought my 360 elite in decemeber and now I want to upgrade to an hdtv. I have heard that 720p is overall the best route to go. Does anybody have any suggestions on a good 720p hdtv?

You are better going for a 1080p TV these days to be more future proof. The majority of 360 games are only 720p and ones that claim to do 1080p are just up scaled 720p.

However I would say get a 1080p TV if you can as it will be more future proof, if you ever get a Blueray player or pickup a cheap HD-DVD drive for the 360 your set for viewing HD movies. The next Xbox / Playstation will most likely have native 1080p games too.

It depends on how much you want to spend and the size of the TV, you can get a nice 25.5” 1080p TV for £380 on ebuyer - Samsung T260HD 25.5" LCD TV/Monitor Freeview 1920x1200 5ms Rose Black 3 Years Onsite Warranty - Ebuyer

Depending on the TV either Samsung or Panasonic were the best when we got our new TV at Christmas, to get the same offering from Sony you were paying a few £100 more for nothing more than the name.

I have thought about a 1080 but still not sure. I agree you Nutter it's probably better for the long run. I don't really wanna spend more than like $350, $400 at the most. I am currently using a 20 inch SD tv. I like the size of the tv because I don't sit very far away from the tv when I play. I think that a 22 inch hd tv would about right. I would go bigger if it wasn't too much more expensive. If i can't find a cheap enough 1080 tv I might just go with a 720p. Any suggestions?

    How about this TV: Samsung SM2333HD 23" FUll HD Ready TV/Monitor Freeview 1920x1080 1080p 10000:1 300cd/m2 5ms DVI/VGA/HDMI Wall mountable Gloss Black 3 Years Warranty - Ebuyer - 23" 1080p for TV £270 = $389

    Or if that’s a bit pricey this one: Samsung T220HD 22" HD Ready TFT TV/Monitor Freeview 1680x1050 10000:1 300cd/m2 5ms RGB/DVI/HDMI Rose Black 3 Years Warranty - Ebuyer - that TV will take a 1080p input and scale it down to 1680 x 1050 - £210 = $302, the resolution is higher than 720p but less than 1080p

I highly recommend Samsung, great quality products and customer service.

Those look like some good ideas thanks Nutter. I have heard that Samsung is the probably the best idea due to the quaility of their products. Now that I know what brand I want it's just a matter of finding the right one. The ones you suggested look like they might be just right for me so thanks. I'll keep looking probably but of you come across any more that you think would be good ideas, please let me know.

The Samsung SM2333HD looks like it might be the one for you, I’ll keep an eye out for any others TV’s.

Killer the only thing I could find on Ebuyers website was this:

I don't know if they ship to the US but you could always e-mail them and find out.

Will do. I will probably get it in a couple of weeks, just have to save a couple of paychecks; you know how it is.

Hey Nutter if I have a 20 inch SD tv right now, will the 22 inch Samsung widescreen look about the same? If i need to, I would get a bigger one. I just want the screen size to be about the same. Is it going to look smaller because it is widescreen?

It might be a bit smaller in height as a screen is measured from one corner of the screen (not the casing) to the other.

If the 20” SDTV is widescreen the 22” HDTV will be bigger, as Trebor says screens are measured diagonally from one side to the other of the actually screen.
If the 20” is not widescreen the 22” will probably be about as tall screen size as the 20” but the 22 will be wider than the 20”

Hope that makes sense it’s pretty early here and I’m still half asleep ;)

I would go look at the TV you’re going to get in the shop and see what you think, either way it’s a major upgrade over an SDTV and don’t think you have any problems sitting close to it when playing games.

My PC monitor is 22” and I think that’s the perfect size, I wouldn’t want anything much bigger as I would feel I’m sat too close to it.

It makes perfect sense Nutter thanks. I probably will go to the store and look at the tv. I really think I'm going to like it because it is the perfect size and it has the full 1080p hd. And it's not to expensive, right in my price range.

Spec wise the TV looks fine, I’ve never heard of “Vizo” before though. When it comes to TV’s / Electronics it’s always worth paying a bit more in my opinion to get a known brand.
As it’s the same price of the Samsung from office deport I linked to a few posts back I would go with the Samsung as there are a very well known brand with great customer service.

If you were going to buy the Vizo I would make sure you see it in person before buying it, it could be great then again it could also be horrible.

This guy has some sound advice for buying cheaper TV’s: Ultra-Cheap Flat-Panel TVs... But Are They Any Good? : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech from the comments people seem to be quite happy with Vizo.

Yes a lot of people here in the US are very happy with Vizio. I agree Samsung is a great brand, but Vizio is very well known here. I am going to go look at it today just to make sure I like it. I am also going to go to Office Depot and see if they have the Samsung for me to look at. I think now it's just a toss-up between the two tvs. Vizio is a great brand as is Samsung so I just need to look at the two of them and make my decision. Thanks for the input Nutter.
