Which is your favourite of the two and why?

Its close for me, both have good multiplayer and Gears is set to improve a lot more with the release of Gears 2 this November.

For single player I found the Gears campaign a lot more interesting and enjoyable than the campaign in any of the Halo series, however 4 player co-op on Halo 3 made things a lot more fun.

If I had to choose my vote would go for the Gears series.

    What about you?

well as you can probably guess i went for halo. though i am a fan of both series. the thing is halo was the first game that got me interested in the FPS Genre.

looking forward to gears 2 though

Halo 1 was the best game i've played. Gears not so much. I like the story of Gears, just thought it was a bit short. Halo 2 + 3 campaign absolutely sucked mind. Plus, Halo is better online in my humble opinion :)

Gears of war is the best...The single player rules and the muiltiplayer is nothing less than PERFECT. I Love Gears of war. Halo though I've tired of all three games. Halo 3 was better than the rest, However I didn't see anything in it. Alien based battle? I don't like those type. Like in gears in there is monsters with life like weapons. Its not the most life like game, though its definitely better than halo!

I would've said Halo but looking at everything thats coming out involving Gears 2 just keeps impressing me so I'd have to say Gears of War. It was the first game that showed me co-operative play was a possibility and how good it is to play with friends. Sure Halo 3 had 4 player co-op but I enjoyed Gears's gameplay more.

Halo purely for 4-players on one console.

Gears, due to the fact is has that sort of real life feeling to it in a very strange way.. Halo is just pants, Guns are all lame no gore its just boring.

I think Gears because its more real compared to Halo. That is probably the only reason. The missions are the same in my opinion but the online for Halo is a tiny bit better.

My choice is clearly Gears, as I've played Gears1 on an almost daily schedule last year, and from now on Gears2 is sure to give me the same sort of addiction.. However, Halo3 was an enjoyable game, especially online even though I haven't played everything that's there. Recently I even downloaded the Xbox Original Halo1 from Marketplace because I hadn't got the chance to enjoy this one before, I've also downloaded both the Heroic and Legendary map packs for Halo3. This means in terms of my enjoyment, the Gears and Halo series aren't that far from each other than I originally thought..

Oh now that I think of it, haven't ever played Halo2, is that version for Vista any good?

Don't bother, it's shite. Unless your really hooked up on the story I really wouldn't bother.

I disagree the Halo 2 for Vista isn’t bad, if you’re a fan of the series its worth picking up if you don’t own Halo 2 on Xbox. The story is exactly the same as the Xbox Version (crap lol but I know a lot of people are in love with it), the graphics are improved a bit and you can get achievements if you’re bothered about that.

I think the big selling point is the map editor/multiplayer, you make totally new levels from scratch which is something you can’t even do even on Halo 3

I got it for £8-9 which I thought was a good price, I wouldn’t pay anymore for it.

I have a different view to everyone else who plays Halo.

I love single player, and I think multiplayer is boring. Where's everyone else I know loves the Multiplayer and thinks the Single Player is shit.

    For me:
Halo Series = Great Single Player
    Gears Series = Great Multiplayer

Where as with me I think the MP and SP to both games are great! Prefer the SP in Gears 1 & 2 though as it's more action packed with greater set pieces and no long boring corridor sections where you can just run from your attackers (worst level in Halo series EVER!).

Gears wins hands down. Voted for it a while ago but I never posted why or anything.

You're the only person I've ever come across that has said that about a Halo game. I found the single player in Halo to be mind numbingly dull and while multiplayer is extremely diverse in terms of game modes I still find it quite boring unless you're playing it with people you know, especially on the larger levels (can't remember the name of it but it has one base at the coast and the other is by a cliff at the other side and they're connected by a long river) where there aren’t enough vehicles and you have to run all the way.

On the other hand I think Gears is one of the best things to happen to shooting games in the last few years and agree with you when you say that multiplayer is great. It's fast paced for the most part and character movement is far more diverse when compared to Halo (taking cover, blind fire, ability to roll/jump from cover to cover fluidly). Single player is entertaining as well but I think I like it a lot more for the multiplayer aspect. Too bad I haven't had the chance to play Gears 2 properly yet.

I love the Halo Universe and storyline. I'm guessing most others dont but when your really into it the story is great and I guess that is what makes me keep pushing through some of the more boring levels in the single player. Some levels on the other hand though are fantastic. There is even some good Halo Universe based books worth reading ;)

The last level that collapses on Halo 3 is fantastic, I would enjoy playing that over and over again. It doesn’t make up for all the other boring levels but it proves there can be a bit of fun in Halo 3 campaign. 4 player co-op did make things a lot more interesting for me though, I wish more games would do that :)

I do hear the books are supposed to be really good but there not really my thing either way.

Agreed. I love the story, and I have read all the books, except the newest one which has just come out http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cole-Protoc...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227628481&sr=8-1 (I have it but haven't got around to reading it, I'm reading the new Mass Effect one at the mo').

I love the Gears story as well, and will be purchasing the forthcoming book, but multiplayer ruins it for me on Gears, everyone plays fucking Annex and it's shite.

Some addons in Gears of War 2 (besides Annex lol) are indeed a bit strange compared to the original gameplay Warzone and related matches usually give. Still most matches I've played so far felt challenging and even a little addictive.. And for Halo2 Vista, I've found this one in a local store for around $20, I'm still not sure it's worth it though, but that game managed to create a huge hype back when it was released for Xbox, and I hadn't got the chance to play it. :P

You get 1 month of Xbox Live free when you buy Halo 2 for Vista (or should if the store didn’t take it), that’s gotta be worth a few £ too!

At that price I would buy it.
