I'm trying to find software (a VPN, for example) that runs on the original XBox (not Kai, for example which requires additional machines) that would allow remote machines to play Halo 2 via System Link.

    Does such a beast exist?

    Thanks for the help.

You definitely need a PC running Kai. As of yet there still is no way to do it entirely on the Xbox itself. However I did read that there is a certain Linksys router that can act as a client, so no PC needed for that. Search it up

The Xbox Classic can't multitask, so it's impossible to run something like this in the background on the Xbox.

Many years ago Kai did have a plugin for Xbmc which allowed you to join a lobby from the Xbox then load a game up after doing so, however the Kai backend still had to run on a PC with resided on the same network as the Xbox. (That hasn't worked for years however).

Kai still has a lot of people playing Halo 2, however if you just want to play with a group of friends XBS Link is also good.

I used to use the kai daemon on my router, using an xbmc tool on the xbox to get the lobby ready. Kai's network is so bloated it's nearly useless these days (at least for me). XbsLink is a far better option, it might take a bit more setup, but the ping times are much faster with the direct peer to peer connection.
