if you live in the UK and want an original 3DS that's capable of running homebrew, custom firmware / emunand then check out Argos.

Currently they have the following 3DS consoles for £69.99:
You can purchase online for delivery or click and collect from your local Argos.

I reserved one online yesterday and collected it on my way home today, powered it on to find its on firmware 2.1.0-4E, result!

I'd also say its a very good price for a 3DS in general too, hopefully this info is of use to someone.

Obligatory proof:

Yesterday some of the Digiex team went to EGX 2015 (previously named Eurogamer Expo) hosted at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England. You could say EGX is essentially the the UK's equivalent of E3, except its open to the general public and not just people in the media.

We have posted a blog of our EGX 2015 experience, which you can read here along with a photo gallery containing some photos taken on the day.

If you fancy going to EGX you can still purchase some tickets for this Sunday on the EGX website, however be warned the tickets do look to be almost sold out.

Did you visit EGX this year? if so let us know what you thought about the event.

Homebrew and emulators are possible on the PS Vita thanks to the Rejuvenate hack. This hack gives access to the native performance and functionality of the PS Vita, rather than running on the PSP emulator which is constrained to the performance of the original PSP.

The hack has the following requirements:
  • Make sure your PS Vita is on firmware 3.51 or lower. If you have firmware 3.52 or higher, your PS Vita cannot run the Rejuvenate hack
  • You need the PSM Dev Assistant for Unity on your Vita. If you have the PSM Dev Assistant installed on your PS Vita, this will work too.
  • You also need a developer license from PSM+.
I don't personally own a PS Vita so can't really created a guide for this unfortunately, however if any Digiex members do own a Vita and hack it, we would love to see something posted up if you get the chance!

After years in development Windows 10 has finally been released. Windows 10 is a free download for anyone currently using Windows 7 or Windows 8. Eventually you will be prompted to automatically upgrade, however you can download the ISO from Microsoft and manually upgrade today.

Windows 10 Home - Windows 10 Home is the definitive Windows 10 experience for general consumers. It offers a familiar and personal experience combined with new innovations for getting things done and having more fun. New features include: an all-new web browser built for doing things online; Windows Hello which providers users a warm welcome and a convenient log-on*; and great new multi-tasking features including snapping multiple apps on the screen and creating virtual desktops for more space.

Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10 Pro is designed for small and medium businesses enabling organizations to manage their devices and apps, protect their business data, facilitate remote and mobile scenarios as well as take advantage of the cloud technologies for their organizations. In addition to small and medium businesses, Windows 10 Pro devices would be a good choice for organizations supporting CYOD programs.

I want WIndows 10, how can I upgrade now for free?

Normal Users -
Simply download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and follow the on screen instructions.

Advanced Users - We have mirrors of the EN-GB and EN-US ISO on our members only FTP, however we have also provided links to download an official ISO directly from Microsoft. Please note if you force the upgrade with an ISO it must be for the version of WIndows you would be automatically upgraded to. For example Windows 8 Home to Windows 10 Home, you can't upgrade from Windows 8 home to Windows 10 Professional for free, it has to be the same edition of Windows. You must...

If you enjoy independent websites like Digiex that are setup by people passionate about a certain subject, for example gaming, you need to help us and fellow webmasters out by contacting ICANN and letting them know you object to any release of personal information without a court order.

ICANN are responsible for domain names on the internet, under proposed new guidelines websites associated to "commercial activity" (e.g. simply having adverts the site to help pay the server costs) will no longer be able to protect their private information with WHOIS protection services.

Without WHOIS protection anyone in the world can freely look up the contact details of the person who owns a domain name. These contact details have to be valid otherwise the domain can be taken away from the owner.

We feel these proposed changes will greatly limit peoples freedom on the internet, discouraging many people from setting up websites on subjects they are passionate about in the future.

We hope many of our readers can take a few moments to do this and help not just Digiex, but many of the people behind other website you might also browse. Thank you.

Xenia is a free and open-source emulator for Windows 8 / 10 that allows Xbox 360 games to be played on a PC.

The emulator is now capable of playing a handful of Xbox 360 titles at full speed, so we thought it was now worth posting about. At the moment most games have various graphical problems, still Xenia has made great progress in emulating the Xbox 360. Who knows we might all be playing classics such as the Gears and Halo trilogies on the PC in 1080p 60fps sooner than we think!

2D games such as Sonic 4 Episode 2 now emulate very well:

A free custom firmware has now been released for the Nintendo 3DS, named Pasta CFW, this firmware removes the signature checks from the 3DS's system software.

Essentially this means if you have an Nintendo 3DS [3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS] and want the benefits Gateway Flashcard owners have, such as been able to install unsigned CIA files, this is what you now have without buying an expensive flashcard.

Some things you can do with this firmware include:
  • Install .cia (.exe's for the 3DS) apps, emulators and tools
  • Dump roms of your games, then convert the games to cia files, meaning they can be installed and launched from the 3DS's home screen without the cartridge in your console
  • Use SaveDataFiler to dump and backup your save games from your game cartridges
  • Modify / hack games, their is already a mod for some of the Pokemon games which changes the story
  • Play games from any region
You will need a copy of the game Cubic Ninja to install this custom firmware, if we have got you interested and would like a little project to complete this bank holiday weekend, then Digiex has an easy to follow tutorials ready and waiting for you.

Here at Digiex we always try to cover the alternate side of owning a console, by alternate side we mean things the mainstream websites like Kotaku would never cover, such as hacking your console to run homebrew applications and emulators, or even other cool things that were never intended to be done with the console by the manufacturer.

The Nintendo 3DS and all its variants (3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS and the New 3DS) have all been hacked wide open recently, allowing homebrew and emulators to be run on any 3DS with 9.2 or lower firmware installed it on.

We currently have a new Nintendo 3DS tutorial section covering both the Ninjhax Exploit and the new Web Browser exploit released by Gateway, which esentially allows you full control over a 3DS.

In addition we now have a download category for Nintendo 3DS Downloads which includes Apps, Game Updates, Demos, Emulators and other useful content.

If you have a 3DS we would encourage you to join in with the up and coming 3DS scene, we intend to provide detailed tutorials where we can.
