Okay well basically ive followed harcrofts guide to manually flash my hddss.bin... Easy

I then continued to use thespecialists method of manually writing the partition headers and clearing partition 2 / fixing the cluster map after words... Also fairly straight forward... Only thing is heres my problem... I ran into some problems just outright cleaning p2 so i had to do it in chunks... I went 120eb1000-121eb1000 etc untill i got to 130eaffff... And now im not sure weather thats why i dont have p3 and my xbox cant find the drive... If its not that my only other idea is that there needs to be A partition on the drive before the edit (i used easuse p manager to remove all the partitions b4 hand) if so then ill go and repartition it then rehex it... But still id like a second opinion first

Edit: Oh and btw i am fairly versed in hex editing and the like (come on i code for Fun... Dont give me your noob look)

Okay ive narrowed down the section with the write error (hxd gets an io error when trying to overwrite it) to 122eb1000 through 123eb1000 and ive already created an unformated partition before doing this again... No detection so its got something to do with that... Looks like im going to have to find out whats wrong there

I believe the problem is more is required than manually flashing the hdss.bin with a hex editor, even if you had no partitions created the drive should show up as formatted in the storage management part of the system settings.

Try flashing the security sector with Hddhackr, we have a good tutorial on that here.

That is the only was i have seen any success personally.

Hmmm i was hoping to avoid that... Guess im going to have to find a pc that someone will let me open (ive been doing the whole thing via usb)

Edit: lol completely forgot that its pointless to try hddhackr... Im using a seagate drive

Edit: might have to reverse engineer hddhackr to find out what it does... Maybe there is some ancient chinese secret thespecialist doesnt want us to know about... Which makes sense i took two guides that both use hddhackr and mashed them together so they dont (one uses hddhackr to flash and hex to partition... The other hex to flash and hddhackr to partition) so unless there is a secret step that hddhackr takes it shouldve worked... Unless my drive is simply incompatible

Hddhackr does more than just write the security sector from what ive read, i honestly could not tell you what though. I believe that's why it only works with western digital drives though. I know Harcrofts guide says he has got it to work with a Seagate drive, i have never personally seen anyone else saying that however.

Best of luck, in hacking a drive however.

Ok unless I get a hold of thespecialist for help or something this is on hold... Plus theres the fact that im getting a usb nand spi in soon and thus will be able to just use xbr/freeboot instead of hacking the drive myself... Plus the 12v version of the sata mod of course so that i can use the 160g that i have lying around...

You good just to put a 2TB drive in the 360 then, and i thought 1TB was a lot back when i did it!

The only reason to hack a drive is if you want to use it in a non modified Xbox 360.
