Does any one know where i can get a 2gb graphics card for a low profile pc and ddr 3 ram EDIT: just found out cant go above a gig. http://www.dell.com/uk/business/p/optiplex-390/pd
My new PC at work, so much nicer to use than the old Pentium 4 i had before Not sure why Windows thinks the graphics card is better for gaming than Windows Aero, it only cost about £20 so will suck for games, not that it will ever be used for that.
I was finally able to build a new PC over the holidays thanks to newegg gift cards in lieu of presents. Core i3 2120 3.3ghz dual core (to be replaced by a Core i5 3570K when Ivy Bridge drops Gigabyte GA-Z68-D3H-B3 motherboard that can handle SLI or Crossfire, USB3.0, SATA 6.0Gb, and of course 22nm Ivy Bridge CPU's 2 x 4gb G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1866 dimms running at full speed with an Intel XMP Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850 with a slight factory overclock and 1GB of GDDR5 500Gb WD Black 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb LiteOn iHas224 flashed with 624 Burner Max firmware PC Power and Cooler 640Watt Silencer II power supply Cooler Master Hyper 212EVO cpu cooler Lian Li Lancool PC K57W (look it up, its a rockin' case that doesn't break the bank) I'm currently running Oblivion at Ultra Settings at 1920x1200 and I get a pretty good frame rate, it only drops below 30 when loading a new area after a fast travel or loading a game. Also since TF2 is free, same thing max settings 1920x1200. Future upgrades are a second Radeon HD6850 sometime late in the year or next year for more power with CrossfireX, an SSD for caching later in the year, and an Ivy Bridge Core i5 3570K (successor to the 2500k) around june. I realize I'm bragging a bit, but I think I get to a bit since it's my first brand new PC in about 13 years, the last one being a Dual Processor P3 1ghz (NOT dual core) with 1gb of RAM and everything since then has been P4 era used crap. If anyone is up for some more modern games, shoot me a PM!
Sorry for the double post, but....I happened to see these when I was looking at my daily rounds on sites for whats on sale. Buy the VisionTek Radeon HD 5450 2GB DDR3 PCIe Video Card at TigerDirect.ca If that doesn't fit your fancy, or isn't powerful enough, Zotac has created a REALLY nice small line of Low Profile cards for older PCs with PCI-E 16x, PCI-E 1x, and PCI variants of fairly modern Geforce cards for mild gaming, or HTPC duties. Newegg.ca - ZOTAC GT218IONGPU-A-E GeForce GT 218 (NVIDIA ION graphics processor) 512MB DDR3 PCI Express x1 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card PCI-E 1x Newegg.ca - ZOTAC ZT-50610-10L GeForce GT 520 (Fermi) 512MB 64-bit DDR3 PCI HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card PCI Newegg.ca - ZOTAC ZT-40609-10L GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card PCI-E 16x Newegg.ca - ZOTAC ZT-40603-10L GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card PCI-E 16x I realize these are links to Canadian sites, but if you can find them on newegg, someone in the UK has to carry them too. I hope you find a video card to fit your PC and budget! Theres always room for upgrading.
Brag away! you have a pretty sweet build there that will last you for many years, and can be upgraded with no problems! An SSD really should be your next upgrade in my oppinnion, the difference one of them makes really is amazing, you really will notice it. My pc literally loads up, logs on and is ready to use in about 8 seconds. Its nice seeing the Windows 7 boot animation appear, then go before its even half finished! General applications just load the second you click on them, even the more demanding ones such as Photoshop will load in a couple of seconds! Very impressed just how much an SSD improved performance for me. Specs below as i never added them before, this is a Mini ITX build so i was really limited when it came to motherboards. It can take the latest sandy bridge i7's if i ever want to upgrade, has USB 3 and supports SATA 3 6Gb/s drives. My only real complaint is the fastest memory it can take is DDR3 1333MHz. Windows and any apps are on the SSD, my steam and documents folder are on the 500gig hard drive and all my media / downloads are on the nas. Specs: Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3-B3 Ram: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz Solid State Drive: Corsair 120GB Force 3 - Read = 550MB/s, Write = 510MB/s Hard drive: Seagate 500GB SATA-III 6Gb/s Hard Drive - 7200RPM 16MB Cache Graphics: Sapphire HD 6870 1GB Optical drive: Samsung SH-B123L 12x BD-ROM DVD±RW DL & RAM PSU: Silver Stone Strider ST60F-ES 600W Case: LIANLI PCQ08B BLK MINI-ITX Monitor: 24" Dell U2412M LED IPS Silver (1920x1200) Speakers: Corsair SP2200 2.1 Gaming Speakers The shelf it sits on is not that deep at all, however the Lian Li PC-Q08 case just sits perfectly on it with space for cables at the back & room above for the air to flow.
Thanks InsaneNutter! Other than the H67 chipset, your build trumps mine in every aspect. The direction of the computer was to build a good base system with as much upgrade room as possible. As much as I want an SSD, the only real boost they give is load times, I'm getting good load times now, but I'm pushing my processor to it's limits already, so that has to come first. Also with Z68 I can do intelligent caching (Intel Smart Response) with a small SSD since I'll never be able to afford a big one. I got REALLY bored waiting for the last parts to arrive, so I gutted an old UV flash light (torch?) and did this: As you can see, no CPU or video card yet. I just snapped a shot of my workstation. It's a bit messy, but it has all my gaming needs covered. When I last moved, I lost my work/gaming room so gaming is all in one cabinet now. In addition to the computer listed, my monitor is a predecessor of InsaneNutters: a Dell 2408WFPb which I run 1440x900 because 1920x1200 makes everything too small, it's also an IPS screen with Display Port, HDMI, 2xDVI, VGA, Component, Composite, S-Video, has a 4 port USB2.0 hub and media card reader. Secondary is a Benq FP91G which was given to me broken, just needed a new PSU. The sideways mount explains the odd 1024x1280 resolution, its great for viewing tall web pages Speakers are an old Altec Lansing ACS56 4.1 surround set with digital controls, and I use a Dell Soundbar for the center channel Halo 3 case Falcon Jtag 360, my old "Live Safe" xbox1 that I used to get roughly 60% of the DLC from the Xbox DLC project Logitech G5 gaming mouse which was also broken and free but in need of repair Tritton AX360 5.1 true surround headphones, with dolby decoder box i use for outputting analog to the speakers, and for wwitching audio. I've also got a 1.5tb HDD for backups, a gigiabit switch, Energizer 360 controller charger dock, and lots of cables, disks and hard drives among other parts stuffed in there. I also have my old Star Wars Lego minikits up on the top for when my nephew visits, as well as a black "smoke" xbox from a very supportive Digiex member from Japan who wanted to share his NTSC-J dlc. Anyway that's enough of my chest pounding, I'm just particularly proud of what I've been able to do with so little resources. Now that I do have a workable PC I can look at working on the old DLC project again....not that anybody cares anymore.
I have a HP H81075-UK PC Its pretty good spec and will play BF3 on full graphics i'm happy with it Slim
