No offence or anything but....I don't get the point of it.

Its for people who hack there own hard drive to use in the Xbox 360.

If you own an arcade console you never had an old hard drive to get partition 2 from... its needed to run the Xbox emulator for backwards compatible games.

Is there a way to put this on USB?

Thanks a bunch for this. You described me to a T....I have an Arcade model with a hacked 250gb hdd thanks to using hddhackr 1.22. I recently purchased a very cheap original Halo combat evolved and couldn't play it. I found that my partion 2 is the issue. Thanks for posting this. I'll give this a try ASAP.

What does this do

I just ran that xplorer360 extreme file linked through virustotal.com and it says its infected with various worm viruses.
here is the results page.
VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner

It triggered 11 different antivirus programs.

So does anyone have a non-infected version?

The one hosted here at digiex works for me, no viruses (scanned by F-Secure and AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials)

Its a false positive, the file is clean and works fine.

How long does it take to restore partition 2? It's been sitting there some time, around 10 minutes (with the green progress bar moving up and down) but not finishing. It does this with both partition 2 taken from my old hard drive and also the one contained in this thread.

I've successfully put the 250GB drive in the 360 and it's seeing it, I've installed several games to the new 250GB HD.

I wanted to play Halo hence the addition of partition 2.

I had the same issue when restoring "partition 2" with Xplorer360 Extreme on Windows 7 on multiple machines, but it works fine on Windows 2003. If you have Windows XP, give that a try.

Also remember on Windows Vista / 7 you need to run the program with admin rights otherwise you will have problems.

is this partition2 from Hitachi, Seagate or from another Xbox HDD Manufactor?

I have a original partition2 from a Seagate and i compared both files (your partition2.bin and mine) but there are mismatches.
The 250GB HDDSS.BIN I use is from an Hitachi HDD, maybe its safer to have an partition2.bin from an Hitachi drive too, if you think about Xbox Live.

i'm just asking. my i have downloaded two partition2 dumps and i dumped my originale 20gb Xbox HDD.

I compared them, but they are not equal - thats why I'm asking. How can they missmatch? Shouldn't they be exactly the same? Maybe the partition2 depends on the harddrive manufactor?

My partition 2 .bin is 256MB.i used mine for the 250gb drive and it worked.Im not sure about the different sizes but they should all work

The Xbox emulator does receive updates, after it is updated that would more then likely modify the size of the space in partition 2.

@ Dark Scyth where can i get the latest updates of partition2?

According to XBL, this is the most up to date version of the emulator.

Its very unlikely anyones partition 2 will match this one, not that it matters anyway.

Partition 2 also contains the avatar files, the avatars get updated every time there is a new dashboard update so thats one reason why they are never going to match.

This was dumped a long time ago, however should have the latest version of the emulator.

First of all I'd like to say thanks for posting these instructions, they are very helpful. I am having one problem though, when I get to the part where I am actually restoring paritition 2 to my 250 GB Hitatchi HDD the progress bar dispayed on the screen with Xplorer 360 shows no progress even after running 30 minutes or more. Any idea what would cause this? I'm running XP SP 3 by the way.

Do you have to have JTAG?
Or could you use a normal xbox 360?

if you used hddhackr on a hard drive this is what you need,normal xbox 360

If I do the process mentioned by the thread, will that get me banned or set my profile in risk? I should note that i have the 4 GB version of xbox 360 "slim" and bought a 250 chinese HDD. Also, besides the transfer cable is there another cable, or cables, i can use to connect the HDD to my computer (like say a standard sata cable)??

I'm also curious whether or not you'll get banned on Live if you restore partition 2. I, too, have a non-official Chinese 250 GB HDD. Also, do I need to first hex edit the drive or could I just go into Xplore 360 and recover partition 2 directly? Thanks.

1.you won't get banned for this,im currently online with the latest dashboard
2.if xplorer 360 shows the 3 partitions then there is no need for hex editing

I have xp media center and I have followed this guide to a T and my games still do not work. What could I be doing wrong?

During the process 360explorer froze up as soon as the progress bar was complete. I had to restart the program and explore the drive again in order to see the partitions content. I then explored it and it looked like it had a folder that says compatibility and some other folder.

What I want to know is why am I still getting an error message the the games are not compatible?

run xplorer360 extreme as admin
open drive
click on restore partition 2
don't mess with any other partition or it may corrupt the drive
test on xbox 360,it should work

I followed your instructions exactly and now this time I'm missing partition 0. Then I put it back in the 360 and it worked but the compatibility does not work. I then formatted the drive and partition 0 is still missing. So the drive is still working in 360, it is now missing partition 0 and the partition compatibility still does not work.

I don't know what else to do but to give up on this. It seems to work for everyone else but me. I must be missing something.

got it to work... I did not realize I needed to be signed into live for the games to work.. everything works like a charm now.
