Default 2 year-old Boy has pack-a-day habit

TIANJIN, China, June 30 (UPI) -- The parents of a 2-year-old in China who smokes at least a pack of cigarettes a day say they are seeking advice to help the toddler quit.

Toddler Tong Liangliang of Tianjin, China, was allowed to begin smoking by his father more than a year ago to help control pain from a hernia with which he was born, but his parents say the toddler's habit has gotten out of control, China Radio International reported Tuesday.

The boy's father said he made the decision because the toddler is too young to have an operation to correct the hernia.

However, the parents told the Bohai Morning Post Liangliang's habit has gotten out of control and they are seeking methods of helping the toddler quit.

Do they not have access to painkillers or are they expensive as well? I know China is a 3rd world country still and has lots of poor areas but surely they could've gotten help from somewhere instead of allowing their child to smoke. Before anyone mentions it, I know the cost of cigarettes in Asia is ridiculously low but that's no excuse for being such neglectful parents....

It is pretty bad, if you watched the video there all laughing when the child lights his cig.

I didn’t know smoking really helped with pain anyway, isn’t that what weed is supposed to do?

drugs/chemicals react differently in an infant's body. they're body functions differently as well (a baby can get 104+°F temperatures frequently and not be affected by it, whereas an adult brain would begin to cook itself). nicotine (in adults) can be used to block a lot of certain chemicals, which could bring pain relief in certain situations.

its entirely possible that the doctor advised a low dose of nicotine taken as needed, which would not be possible with a nicotine patch (constant steady dose) and anything oral (chewing tobacco) could choke the baby.

the actual smoke harming the lungs might or might not have any long term effects. the baby is still developing, and adult lungs can completely recover from years of smoking (fact: statistically, the most common form of cancer among smokers is bladder cancer). we really have no idea what smoking can/will do to anyone. we have the common sense idea that inhaling smoke = bad, and there are bad things that can happen to smokers, but its still very rare to sustain any extreme damage.

besides, i can tell you that a smoking addiction is about a million times better for you than a pain killer addiction.

Thumbs up

I never smoked in my whole life, and not feel the need to do truly believe that the cigarette industry should begin to give us a cut, ruining the health of many people ...

I think that my eyebrows just jumped off my face in suprise. The kid is never going to be any taller than 3 feet if they keep giving him cigarettes and I'm sure that some kind of medication would be available if he was in pain?
