Worms 2: Armageddon hits Xbox Live Arcade in an unfinished state

The sequel to one of the top selling Xbox LIVE titles arrived today with much excitement from people around the globe.

WORMS™ has been one of the most successful and consistent Xbox Live titles since its launch in March 2007 and now it’s back, bigger and better than ever for this stunning and feature packed new edition, launching on the 10th anniversary of the release of Worms Armageddon.

Sadly though, despite all the fanfare the game launched with some major bugs which have effected players enjoyment of the game:

    • Online play only works with one game mode (Online Deathmatch). Any attempt to play another type like Rope Race and Forts will result in the game ignoring you and doing a normal deathmatch.

    • When you are the host, the game automatically crashes for you bringing your game and your entire Xbox to a halt. The only solution is to restart your Xbox. This is confirmed by over 10 different people with different types of Xbox (some brand new ones as well as launch ones etc). The likely hood of a crash seems to be around 25% (one in every four games).

    • If you are lucky enough to have more than one Xbox, or have friends with consoles if you load up your profile and load up Worms, the game will reset all your mission status, coins you earned as well as unlockables you bought in the shop. It will also erase all your achievement status (like if you needed 25 Super Sheep in a ranked game for the achievement and you had 21 done, this is also reset as shown in the Achievement status screen). When you then go to load your profile back on your original console this data is still not recoverable.

These 3 major game bugs have made the game mostly unplayable for most people, besides the usual online deathmatch. Those of you who bought the game excited to try out the new game modes will have to wait until Team 17 fix the game. Team 17 have been informed of these bugs, but refused comment. It does make us question what happened to Team 17 testing their own games as well as the Microsoft certification process which is suppose to check games before they go on Xbox Live.

    Update (02/07/2009):

We have been contacted by Martyn Brown, the Studio Director from Team 17 who assures us that a patch will be in the works to solve these issues. However he stressed this issues should have been raised by Microsoft during the testing and certification stage, so who is to blame for this mess up remains unknown. Either way, rest assured issues should be solve soon, however no release date is present and every patch requires re-certification so may take longer than hoped!

Its probably like what happened with Fallout 3's DLC The Pitt, when it was sold it was VERY VERY buggy, you could see red ! in the air and when you really tried to get anywhere the game would freeze on you not allowing you even go back to the dashboard unless the console was turned off and back on. It was taken off of XBL for one day and the next day it was up it was fixed and playable it was first intended to be. Sounds like this needs to be taken down and fixed then put back up when 100% fixed.

    Contacted MS

I am currently dealing with MS about this issue. Believe it or not they deny having any prior knowledge about this issue except for me calling in. Specifically I am talking about loading the game onto an MU, and when playing on another console it resets all the stats.

I play in two different rooms in my house all the time, so for me this is a 100% progress blocker. I will be calling them back again tonight when I get home to explain in painfully great detail why I feel this is a progression blocker. Although i try not to blame their Cert testers, we all know there are many parties to share the blame.

Anyways, I will be sure to post again and let everyone know what the resolution is. I'm honestly hoping for my points back...

pDon't get me started on the DRM, as everyime I try to play an arcade game offline, it says I only have the trial. therefore I am forced to sign into live just to play arcade games......sigh

I thought I would be safe if I signed in on another console and played leaving my save game on my console. But nope it appears to corrupt something on your profile as my save is no longer recognised.

As much as I like Team 17 Worms 2 Armageddon is a bit of a poor do.

Also has anyone else noticed you carnt drop weapons on people when using a ninja rope, you fall of the rope instantly. You have been able to drop a weapon when on a rope in all Worms games since Worms 2. Not sure if this is yet another bug or by design :S

Use the licence transfer tool, one of your consoles will be able to play the game when your offline after doing that.

I can honestly say that I am glad I did not get this game. Glad I got Battlefield 1943 instead (Yes because that game was sooo much better with it's launch and the servers worked perfectly fine 8-). Sarcasm at it's best ladies and gentlemen.).

Lol the Xbox Live Arcade is not having the best of luck lately, annoying but I guess nothing is perfect.
