The Left 4 Dead demo is available to anyone who pre orders the game on Steam, however those of us who wish to try the game out before pre ordering have to wait another week for the demo.

However Digiex has managed to obtain the demo early for those of you wishing to try it then pre order, check below for download links.

About the game

From Valve (the creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and more) comes Left 4 Dead, a co-op action horror game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts up to four players in an epic struggle for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying mutant monsters.

Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies,” guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each "movie" is comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and objectives.
New technology dubbed "the AI Director" is used to generate a unique gameplay experience every time you play. The Director tailors the frequency and ferocity of the zombie attacks to your performance, putting you in the middle of a fast-paced, but not overwhelming, Hollywood horror movie.

How to Install and Play

Run the installer
Go in to the folder where you installed the game and run the Left 4 Dead.bat file
Now enjoy then go and pre order on Steam

1. Unpack
2. Overwrite the english survivor folder with the russian survivor folder in - Left 4 dead demo/left4dead/sound/player
3. Play the demo in english!

How to play over LAN/Hamachi

1) Install hamachi
2) All players must be on the same subnet class C
3) Hamachi must be set as primary network adapter in advanced settings in control panel/network cnnections

The advanced peer menu is used to configure per peer settings in Hamachi.

HOST:

Go to Hamachi : Preferences: Window to turn on the menu.
Right Click the peer whose settings you'd like to edit.
Go to Advanced...

The menu will show your local Hamachi IP and nickname.
You will see settings for Peer VPN alias

EG. Your Hamachi IP is 5.69.127.35 and you have a friend that has 5.110.166.143.
To keep his IP in the same class as yours, just enter your Hamachi IP at his peer VPN alias,
adding an extra unit (5.69.127.36).

It's a good thing for all users to use the same aliases so you don't have any conflicts!

Now, when is ready, open your bat file and add -console, save it.

Now launch a game with a .bat file.

In the console type : sv_lan 1 then net_start then map and press TAB key and chose
the 1st map on the list.

The game will start, now the others players must connect to the server with command
connect your hamachi IP.

Woo, thanks for this upload, this is exactly what i was looking for

. My net download quota gets reset tomorrow and i wanted to use up the remaining for this month on the demo (cause the non-pre demo comes out on tuesday and that would just eat away at next months, i only get 20gb), so i could work out whether to get it when the full game releases.

I need help...

When I start up the game All i get is a black screen, I can hear the Valve intro things, then the L4D music. I don't know what to do, cause all I get is a black screen, and I can see my mouse cursor.

Dam it, the download cut off at 948mb... how big is it meant to be?? There isn't a whole lot i can do to rectify that is there?? I'll just have to re-dl it?

HAH! I worked it out, I DL'd the torrent file then chucked the incomplete file from the FTP download into its data, and it just picked up where it left off. Awesome, i totally didn't know you could do that, but i suppose it makes sense. I just hope the data isn't corrupted

. But oh well, worth a try i guess.

It should works fine, most torrent clients are smart enough to fix anything that gets corrupt.

Ok so it all worked fine, but i have one more question and if it can't be fixed then it doesn't matter, but i thought i would try. So the game ran, but the in game voice audio is in russian...

I tried this from the help section for the torrent on piratebay. (as others are having the same problem i think)

in a .reg file, and it ran properly but didn't change anything (i assume this was for changing text??) Regardless it didn't fix the audio.

Is there a way to alter this?? Some manner of file in the L4D folder i can change? I had a quick browse but nothing jumped out.
If not then like i said its not the end of the world, no harm in trying tho

How do you set the hamachi as primary network adapter on windows vista and xp? I used to be able to just disable my regular network and re-enable it after a few seconds, and hamachi would be set as primary, but since I updated to 1.0.3.0 so I can use the "advanced" option to configure per peer setting, that trick won't work, once my regular network is re-enabled it switches that to primary.

the game intro starts up fine and then when it gets to the welcome screen, when the music plays and there are zombies walking in the background, i cant do anything after that.

NO idea Xiphos666 as I preordered the game and downloaded the demo early properly. If that's something that's bothering you, you can now download the demo from Steam or anywhere else without having preordered now.

Hello, i'm new here...

I missed the actual demo release and now the demo download isn't on Steam anymore. So i have resorted to Torrents, like this one.

I have downloaded the L4D demo and the other file.

The next step is to execute the setup right? Well, the problem is that it auto installs in my C: Drive and i only have 6gb. 6gb should be fine, but everytime i install it, i lose around a gb of memory and nothing happens. When i operate the second file (the first file in the first image) it just reinstalls the setup again and i get less and less memory.

So, i don't know whats wrong, but i'm guessing the setup isn't working right. I really don't want to reinstall the setup because it takes me 5 hours to install it. Probably because of where its been uploaded.

Does anyone know whats going wrong? Also, does anyone know how i can "merge" my two drives, i don't want to try anything because i usually end up screwing something up.

You can merge your two partitions by right clicking on my computer and going to manage, here find disk management.

In here you should see the partitions on your hard drive, simply right click on your D:\ partition and click delete volume (YOU WILL LOOSE ANYTHING ON IT, BE WARNED, Make a backup.) now right click on the C:\ partition and expand it so it uses up all the free space.

That will work fine if both drives are partitions on the same two hard drives, if there two separate hard drives that won’t work.

Do you mean it took you 5 hours to download it? If it took 5 hours to install something is wrong there.

Once installed did you go to the folder where you installed the game and run the Left 4 Dead.bat file?

If you did that and nothing happens you either don’t have enough free hard disk room which is causing the game problems or your graphics card is not supported by the game, do you know what graphics card you have?

I hate to say this, but i'm pretty stupid compared to most computer geeks.

As for the partition parts, is there a way to check if they are two separate hard drives without disassembling my laptop, i'd probably forget how to put it back and end up breaking it.

Yea, the estimated time for download was like 3 hours 15 minutes, but my x/KB kept going from 40-120. Its probably where you uploaded it... because i've gotten more KBs from speedyshare.

To install it, i have to open the setup (the demo.exe), once i open it, it installs 8? files in my TEMP folder which add up to like 1-2gb and they don't do anything. I've searched everywhere and there are no more files, each of the files has a weird combination of letters and numbers. I deleted them and i'm not too eager to reinstall them.
When i run the demo.exe, nothing pops up, it just installs those 8 files in my C: Drive automatically. I can't even see it unless i refresh My Computer and see the actual GBs going down.

I'm guessing this is my specs:

I heard intel sucks, but i wouldn't know how to change it even if i wanted.

Yes its virus free, it *should* be in English, I didn’t have any language problems with it when I played it a few months ago.

yes i can play it but my computer blue screen'd on me i no the game asks for 3.0Ghz and i got 2.0Ghz and for RAm it asks for 1Gb and i have 768MB would that case the blue screen?

I don’t think it would cause a blue screen, if your on XP / Vista ive found most blue screens are caused by software conflicting, bad drivers or failing hardware. What was the blue screen error?

If your pc can’t run it, it probably won’t but it shouldn’t bluer screen.

when im playing i get onto the starting screen just fine, but i think mines in like spanish or something. Also when i click anything just a white box appears and like nothin happens. When i did get into single player by luck, i could only see the names and everything was black. I could see the names of like zoey and my weapons on my side, and hear them talking, but i couldt see anything. Also whats up with that white thing? like i see the play single player and campaign thing just fine, but when i click it, its like white... Whats wrong and what do i do?

If you have Vista: on your desktop right click, go to personalise then click on display Settings.

If you have XP: on your desktop right click, press properties.

It should bring a window up that says what monitor is connected to what graphics card.

e.g. 1. Dell 2208 WFP(Digital) on Nvidia Geforce 8800GT.

Use WinRAR to unpack it. If you don't have WinRAR get it here. Click on the first one that says WinRAR 3.80. After you download it, install it.
(I don't have L4D on the PC so someone else will have to help you with that.)

Yes, as far as I'm aware Valve haven't really released any patches that up the graphics in the full game so if the demo works for you you should be good to go and buy the full game.
