With Multiplayer Gaming - Is a rapidfire / modded control cheating?

Back years ago on the days of consoles staying offline with single player games, controllers with turbo buttons and editable macros / fire rates weren't considered a problem, as you only affected yourself.

But with the rise of Xbox Live and the Playstation Network, suddenly such a controller can give you an unfair advantage, allowing you to turn a pistol into a sub machine gun and so fourth.

So for those of you who play games like Modern Warfare, Halo Reach and other FPS's online, do you feel someone with a controller mod is cheating? How do you feel about them, do you have one yourself and would you go as far as reporting the cheater or quitting? Please vote above and discuss your opinion

I think you just answered your question.

Of course its cheating because they normally wouldn't use the weapon if they couldn't use a turbo controller. Like MW2 for example, I'll see several people that use the FAL but if they didn't have the turbo controller they wouldn't even attempt to use that weapon because they themselves can't respond fast enough to be able to see the person keep a steady aim while rapidly pushing right trigger. Obviously turbo isn't something that is automatically built into every official licensed controller, you either have to make it yourself, buy it from someone else or a offbrand company.

On Games like Mw2 i have used a rapid fire controller, i have never used one on Halo games
As Nimrod says these are old school aids , everyone had a rapidfire controller back in the day, almost all controllers had the 'Turbofire' option
If you are a hardcore serious Gamer that plays online and sees it as a proper competitive arena then yes they are cheating
But i dont really see them as cheating if you are a casual online gamer and are not really interested in climbing those ranks

I personally am a serious offline gamer and always play on the hardest level of the game, but i am not the best at online and dont have the either the time or enthusiasm to get really good so for the 10mins i play mw2 for i have no issues using a modded controller

What casual gamer buys a turbo controller? To put into the simplest terms, would they ever allow Turbo Controllers in MLG? Of course not, that would honestly seem idiotic if they did. I would actually like to use a turbo controller on Campaigns, I think it would be sort of amusing but using it on Multiplayer games I wouldn't even like using a turbo controller, its too cheap for me I guess.

I did not buy it, i made it, i spend lots of time seeing how to change and modify stuff, its just what it do

P.S i never use a modded controller on campaign only online

Maybe because its because i have been gaming since the early eighties i have always considered offline gaming as the main reason to play, with the advent of online things have changed and online is becoming huge, but still it is not a big part of my gaming life and therefore i dont really treat it seriously and have no issues using a modded controller for the short times i do go online

Yeah I consider it an unfair advantage, it would be different if everyone had a turbo controller. However I doubt the developers had in mind that people would use turbo controllers. I wouldn't really report a person for using it however.

Has anyone been banned for using one ?

Its honestly pretty much impossible to tell because it never specifies a reason when you get banned so it could be from your motto/bio for all you know.

I'd definitely consider it cheating if it gives an advantage that isn't actually based upon the skill of a player...

I have a rapid fire controller for my PS3. It's not a modded controller or anything like that, I bought it that way, it's a Rocketfish. I do use the rapid fire on COD MW2, mostly offline, but one of my friends did get his 360 console banned and a gamer tag reset because of using a modded controller on XBL LOL. He sold the controller shortly after. Personally I think offline it's not cheating but online it is, that's like playing Counter Strike Source and making it so you can't ping more than 5, great trick, not really cheating, but it is at the same time LOL
