As 2009 is slowly moving toward its end, we follow up our most pirated movies chart by taking a look at the most pirated games of the year. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the absolute winner on the PC and Xbox 360, while New Super Mario Bros. scoops the title of most pirated Wii game of 2009. With 4.1 million unauthorized downloads of the PC version alone, the game more than doubles the achievement of last year’s ‘winner‘ Spore. Modern Warfare 2 leads both the PC and Xbox 360 lists, by a landslide. The overall trend across all platforms is that, unlike last year, all of the games are 2009 releases. What makes Modern Warfare 2’s chart-topping even more impressive is that this has been achieved after just two months of availability. We further see that the figures for the most downloaded titles have more than doubled compared to last year, equaling the growth in uTorrent users. PC games are by far the most downloaded titles, with on average more than three times the number of downloads compared to Xbox 360 and Wii releases. As expected, Mario titles are in high demand on the Wii. The data for these lists is collected by TorrentFreak from several sources, including reports from all public BitTorrent trackers. All the data is carefully checked and possible inaccuracies are systematically corrected. Source It's a shame to see such high figures for the PC.
this was all invitable for mw2 coz it pissed everyone including me that they didnt have dedicated servers...
The figures will be higher because there's far far more PC owners out there. I bet if you did it on a percentage basis, the PC percentage would be much lower.
That is true, there are many more PC gamers out there than there are console gamers. Although I suspect that in the next few years, the numbers for console gamers will get closer to the PC gamers because console gaming seems to be becoming more and more common.
Thats true Killer, I was a PC gamer for many many years until the Xbox 360 was released now i almost always play on the 360.
I am surprised that Forza 3 didn't make the 360 list. It seemed like half of the world was playing it on Live before it was released. I personally just converted BACK to PC gaming from 360. I play most RPGs and the ability to add mods to the game has brought me back. Oblivion is so much better this time around on a PC with mods installed. Dragon Age Origins has some great mods that adress some of the native issues that console gamers will never be able to benifit from. Consoles have just as much, if not more, horsepower as a PC these days but are completely locked by the manufacturers. I understand it is to help prevent piracy. I'm all for that. But one would think that a way could be found to allow for customization of games on a console. What good is a 360 with a 120 Gb HDD if you are limited as to how you can use that HDD.
I'm surprised Prototype was downloaded that much. Did the game itself even sell as much as people downloaded it? Seems like the most downloaded games were games that sold very well as well (MW2 and Sims 3 being no brainers).
I too was surprised to see Prototype on that list. It seemed like it was more of a quiet sleeper hit for those that actually played it. It didn't get the recognition it deserved but hopefully the sequel will do better in the way of the media response.
Its exactly like the Hulk, almost every move is Identical. I bought Prototype not sure if I should of. I'm not really surprised as the figures that MW2 has if people can get if for free they sure as hell will.
