We would like to apologize to all members and guests on behalf of the Digiex Staff. On the Saturday the 16th we suffered a major server crash which lead to the Digiex Server having to be hard reset resulting in database curruption. We ran all the repair operations we could but the database still had some curruption left in it so we have had to restore from a backup taking at 3am (GMT) on the 16th.

As a result, all posts, threads and member registrations that took place between 3am and 9pm have been lost.

This server crash happened due to the overwhelming amount of connections to the Fight Night Round 4 Xbox 360 Demo hosted at Digiex. At times over 1000 connections were taking place to the FTP server which overwhelmed it and caused the entire box to crash. Sadly the majority of the people downloading it werent even downloading from the Digiex thread, some people passed on the direct download link and posted it on other sites causing too much traffic for us to take. As a result we have now put the ftp download link for the demo up in the Members only section which is only available to regular members (Torrent is still available to guests). We leaked the NXE Dashboard, Resident Evil 5 and now the Fight Night Round 4 demo days before any other site so if you want fast download links you will need to become a regular member.

Again we apologize to all members who have lost content, luckily anything you uploaded to the FTP server is still there as its only the forum software thats affected so please feel free to post up your downloads again.

At first when I seen a lot of the posts gone I thought I was just going insane. Then when I figured out why it really happened I'm not even an admin and I'm pissed, I can only imagine how you guys feel. I don't see why people had to be assholes and take the FTP to other sites, they could of taken the torrent link and everything would have still been fine. Thankfully it didn't have a more damaging impact on the site. You try to do good just to have greedy people screw you over.

Is it possible to put a limit on how many people are on the FTP at once?

The limit exists, the problem is the meer amount of people connecting to the FTP server, even if the FTP server replies with "Sorry, too busy try connecting in 120 seconds". When theres like 1,000 all knocking on the FTP servers door at the same time it doesnt have the resources to tell them to all individually go away. Combined with some people using download managers making 10 connections every 10 seconds.

Think of it like a crowd of people all charging through a single door at once, its choas and the server just dies :( Then once the FTP hits the CPU usage limit, the Web Server and MySQL server have to fight for resources. They all get backlogs of requests to process and then eventually the operating system is struggle to get enough resources for itself and eventually theres just too much and the server locks up. We couldnt even get enough resources to make a SSH connection to tell the server to kill the FTP server to recover and eventually had to get someone at the server center to do a hard reboot (power off / on) which lead to the database curruption.

We cant afford a seperate box for the FTP server at the moment so all three services have to run on one box.

Why do ppl insist on direct linking to the Digiex server? I recommend that anytime Digiex hosts a pre-release it goes straight to the Members only section.

This is totally unacceptable. After hours of trying I finally got a high score in the arcade, and now it's gone :'(

I think I may need a Digiex cookie to cheer me up *hint*

I knew the RE5 download was popular but at least it didn't crash the server. Was Digiex the only place you could download the Fight Night Round 4 demo? If not then why did someone post our links elsewhere? Sad to know some peoples posts and threads will be lost forever, unless they're willing to repost them (please do!). I think in future it'd be wise for us to only post up the torrent and FTP access for advanced members only. If an advanced member does post our link elsewhere is it possible to find out who did? I know that might sound a little untrustworthy of me but I'd rather not see Digiex go down again.

We were the first website to rip and post the demo up (as far as I know) we defiantly had the first torrent of it up too!

I don’t mind people posting links to Digiex elsewhere, as that’s how the internet works... you post up something worthwhile people will link to it :) its people that steal the FTP link, give no credit to us for it and crash our server who annoy me.

All downloads will always be public on Digiex, however if we have something that gets massive like FN4 again only advanced members will get the FTP link until the hype dies down... ofcourse they will be a torrent for anyone whos not an advanced member.

I think that’s the fair way to go about it, Digiex doesn’t crash again, advanced members get an FTP download if they want it and everyone else can still get the file from the torrent which ofcourse will be seeded from a good connection.

Thank god the Arcade Scoreboard is uneffected by the main forum database crash ;)

Also we are out of cookies, I'm sorry :(

Because they dont think about it when they copy and paste links on other sites, except the jerks at Xbox360ISO's which do it because they steal content from other sites.

I'm working on a mod where the forum will interact with the FTP Server, where you have to request a download and the forum would generate you a on the fly download link with its own temp username and password, then we could track who leaked a link.
