I’ve got the Nokia N95 which I’ve had for about 11months now. Since having the Ngage QD back in 2004 I’ve always gone for Nokia Series 60 based phones because of the amount of extra applications and games you can install on them. I got the N95 because it basically does everything a phone can do, which is important to me as I love my gadgets and want a phone to last for a couple of years when I get one.

I have a Samsung SGH-J700V. As long as I can call and send text messages I'm happy, although I do occasionally check my mail on my phone.

Well just got a N95 same as InsaneNutter's. Haven't played with it much yet but it seems solid and easy to use.

I have the new iPhone 3g. Once jailbroken it has limitless possibilities. You can do anything with it. Including new GPS, 3G, mail, internet, games. I'm currently using my iphone to make this post via remote desktop. :) If you plan to buy a new phone in the furture you should get the iPhone 3G. You'll be surprised at all the things it can do!

Absolutely nothing that the first-gen iPhone can't do, with the exception of being able to access a 3G network that is not yet fully developed. :P

In fact, less than the first-gen iPhone! Until the 3G device has been software-unlocked and can operate on networks outside of AT&T (and their international partners), I am uninterested.

Ture, but you are messing out on 3G speed and GPS. You can search for a jailbreak. This will allow anysim, third party apps, and for it unlocked. Using the third party apps you can make VOIP calls, and even change from my carrier AT&T to TMoblie

Depends where you are, from what I’ve read on the internet we have a lot better developed 3g network here in England than the in USA. I’m not sure if the Iphone does but phone such as the N95 and N82 support 3.5g which is already a massive speed improvement over 3g.

Ive got a few questions about the Iphone:
    • With the new firmware can the Iphone send MMS messages and transfer files over Bluetooth now?
    • When an Iphone is jail broken I understand that means you can basically install anything that Apple have not approved such as emulators, does that mean its unlocked to any network too?
    • Finally once jail broken can you only install cracked updates?

Answer to Qustion 1.) I'm not sure if you can transfer files using bluetooth or not, It will let me use bluetooth but when I attempt to transfer ringtones from my moms razr it doesn't pick up anything. I don't know anyone near me with a iphone to attempt bluetooth.(iphone to iphone) Though it will let me use a headset via bluetooth.

Answer to Qustion 2.) Yes, once jailbroken you can install anything, if using 2.0 firmware you can use the appstore which is approved by apple. which allows you to install some things and the cydia installer, that gives you alot more third party apps not allowed to app store, yes like emulators. I did have a few of them on my iphone but i upgrade to 2.1 and its not jailbroken right now.

Answer to Qustion 3.) Not sure what you mean...You can install updates for any app depending on what you used to download them. If you used app store, just click it and hit updates, it then checks for app updates. Same way for cydia. If you mean firmware. Then once jailbroken you can always upgrade your firmware to a newer version. The newest is 2.1. I know that you can jailbreak 2.0, though i've not tryed 2.1 yet. I believe you can if you have a mac. Just need the pwnage tool.

I got the iPhone 2.0 Firmware on my iPod Touch

    No it doesnt support MMS
And from reading about it, the iPhone does not support 3.5g, infact it has a very cheap 3g chip which keeps losing signal according to rumours on the interweb.

Either way, the fact it lacks 3.5G which is essential to me for my streaming radio and internet browsing means I couldnt use the iPhone full time.

What amazes me is the iPhone originally launched only as a 2g phone when 3.5G was rolling out, and only recently they release the iPhone 3G over a year later and act like its amazing. America is usually ahead with technology, but mobile phones is one thing they are years and years behind europe, and decades behind japan, there like a third world country in that respect. You pay to receive calls, theres different standards, 3G is a new thing wheres we have had it for years. While I walk down the road, my phone can download from bit torrent at 7mbit....
You may think where am I going with this, but this is the iPhones flaw, it was designed by Apple, which is American, for the American market. They dont understand what europeans need.

Anyways to answer the topics starting point, same phone as Insanenutter connected to Network Three with a 3.5G Sim Card :)

My personal phone is a W910. Its very slim, light but also have a very good music player. It has replaced my MP3 since I got it!

For work I have a Blackberry 8800. Its pretty decent, so cannot complain!

You soon learn why they nickname them Crackberrys though...

Another N95 user here, I sold my Iphone and it didn’t really suit my needs.
The bigger touch screen on the Iphone was nice however the N95 suited my needs a lot better.

Use your WIFI, if you have one. When your out to walmart or such they normally have a wifi connection. Connect to it instead of using 3g or edge.

Yep I was on about the firmware, so if you jail break and have firmware 2.0 could you install 2.1 from Apple or would 2.1 need to be cracked/jail broken before you could install it?

Thanks for all the detailed answers.

You can always upgrade your iPhone firmware no matter what version/jailbroken you have. If you have 2.0 jailbroken then yes you can update to 2.1, though as far as jailbreaking 2.1 you'll need a mac and the pwnage tool. Use it to create a custom 2.1 firmware...then try to update your iphone with it. If it doesn't take it you'll probably need an older version of itunes... maybe 7.5...Then it should install.
