To start the review off, I'm gonna start talking about "DeskScapes" which is a program that allows users to have animated wallpaper on their Windows XP or Vista desktop. (Also Including Windows 7 *Must be an Object Desktop Subscriber to download during the beta stage*) It supports playing video as animated wallpaper, dynamically generated content as animated wallpaper, and more.

I'm an Object Desktop Subscriber and I have Windows 7. So I got in on this beta and here is exactly what I think!

First off lets start by showing how the beta of this program looks and runs. You'll notice in the picture below that the explorer.exe (Which is what process that uses Deskscapes) is using a rather low amount of ram compared to over 300 mbs (on Vista with old DeskScapes version) use to run before.

In the first picture attached it appears to be using a little more than before (was 96 mbs) but is still running better than what it did before on Vista and the old DeskScapes. Then again if you also notice I have a total of 69 process running at the moment.

Moving on to the newly enhanced GUI. (Graphical User Interface) You'll notice that the programs GUI looks so much better than it did before. (Just take a look at some of the attached pictures below.) In these pictures you can see it has a Live preview. Which shows you what it will look like before applying it. It even has effects, which is an amazing feature.

Not only that, but if your PC isn't all that fast, it even has a settings option. So you may decide on quality or performance!

Conclusion: I love this application. I know its still in a beta stage and may still have some glitches. (even though I've not found any yet) I think it is amazing and I'm very glad I purchased my Object Desktop Subscription today. "Go on, have a look at the last picture attached, titled Final Result!" ;)

Very nice review King, how much CPU usage does it use? The reason I ask is on my old PC didn’t really handle dream scene and the old deskscapes stuff that well. I know this pc will but it could be handy for others to know.

It seems to be using 2-4 percent of the CPU. which I think isn't rather bad for an active wallpaper.

Though it does have a setting, (shown in the pictures attached - 6 different options) where you can adjust weather you want quality or performance. As you can see mine is set to max quality and is only using that little.

Any ideas when the general public will be getting this?

Very nice review sir. I don't think 2-4% CPU usage is bad at all for an active wallpaper. I too am curious when the general public will be getting this.

I think that’s the old Windows Vista / XP version which doesn’t work on Windows 7.

    I could be wrong though.

I can cofirm it doesn't work on Windows 7. I downloaded a supposed fix from a website to get Dreamscene onto Windows 7 but it didn't work properly for me (I have the RTM Win 7). I then proceeded to install deskscapes hoping it would work like it does in Vista but upon clicking a dreamscape file or trying to set a video as a background a window popped up asking me to download dreamscene which obviously I couldn't seeing as MS has dropped it for Win 7. Good to hear that Stardock are going to release something for Windows 7 users. Maybe they'll make it free for Win 7 Ultimate users like they did Vista Ultimate users but I'm willing to pay for it by what KingBurnxs has shown, if they don't :D
