You can host on Xlink Kai without a jtag, however anyone joining your game must have a jtagged console otherwise they will get booted for having a ping over 30ms. Its possible to remove the 30ms ping restriction on Jtagged consoles.

Well, people with a retail 360 can connect to you , but only if the ping is under 30ms .

Myself and KingBurns just tested Xlink out for the 360, everything works as expected.

Port Forwarding was not required (my router has upnp on), neither was altering the 360's Mac address.

Both of us were on Windows 7 64bit, running Xlink in compatibility mode for Windows Vista. I hosted on my Jtag which i have not removed the ping limit on yet, he joined on his Jtag which had the ping patch and we could play fine together. A few other random people joined our game too and everyone had all but 1 bar for the connection quality in Mw2.

We averaged around 140ms ping and Modern Warfare 2 was perfectly playable.

If you want to play online for free you could also try XBConnect .
The only problem is , is that XBConnect has very few people playing on it .

Guys have a jtag want to start using xlink , I dont run freedash.
If im connecting up through my router does x link disable the xbox live connection?
May be a dumb question but obviously dont want it to connect to live in anyway.

    Cheers

Since posting above I have used XBSlink a fair bit recently and much prefer it to Xlink Kai, no messing about with lobbies within lobbies.

I created a room to play Blur with a friend, within 5 mins two other random people had joined us. That just wouldn't happen on Xlink Kai from past experiences.

Loads of people appear to be playing Gears 3 and Dead Island on it at the moment, I had some good Gears 3 games on it and even bumped in to a few people from Digiex.

I'm sorry , but on the Mac ( Apple ) Xlink Kai is more stable . With a Mac on XBSlink i get a lot's of lag.
When i host , people tell me that my connection is laggy . On XLink Kai i have no problems .
    BTW , here is a speedtest :

So , the problem is not my connection .

so with these alternatives to live, is it worth paying extra for an unbanned jtag or not... I don't see the point as both can't go on live now. So you can only use the alternatives... Are there any advantages to buying an unbanned jtag?

You don't need to buy a unbanned jtag if you want to play on XLink Kai .A unbanned Jtag is overkill , don't do it . Just buy a cheap one .

I'm going to follow the steps and then see what's the result. Obviouly I'm not expecting a lot of players as there are in Xbox LIVE but some at least.

Is FIFA 11 playable online? And my XBL account has the 7 day trial expired can it bypass it?
