Xbox 360 12 volt fan mod with 120mm fan

I just wanted to make a quick show of a 12 fan mod i did added it to the out side of my case on a original launch console. It's running off of the 12 volt power for the DVD drive
Steps

1. Open console (if you don't know how Google it)

2. Take the Dvd drive power cable and unhook it from the board and drive, I used wires 11 (ground) and 12 (12 volt power) I made a bare spot on the wire's and wrapped my fan wire's around them and soldered them on and added black tape to cover them

3. Now you have to cut a whole in your case (lol i used my cheap soldering gun to do it) and mount the fan.

4. Put your Xbox 360 back together and enjoy

A few questions for you. What motherboard is your 360 (Falcon, Xenon, or Jasper). Does your 360 seem to run considerably cooler? Also is it troublesome to add the Blue LED to your 360 or that a simple task.

my motherboard is a Xenon, I think all the power hook ups are the same because I have swapped drive's I before and never had any power problems, I noticed that my main fan in the xbox (stock fan) never kick's in to high anymore no matter how long it let it runs, and to do the blue LED's wasn't to hard to do I did just single LED for blue only so when I removed the old dual LED's i only hooked up one side for the power just takes a steady hand and a good soldering gun and tweezers, instead of both so if I get a RRoD I wont get error codes until i swap out the RF board with a stock one

Is the 12v fan mod you have done quieter than when the stock 360 fans spin up and get really loud?

Nothing annoyed me more on my old launch console, especially when I was using it as a Media Center Extender to watch TV.

its quieter then the stock fan, since I've done the mod my stock fan hasn't even kicked in to high, i have the 120mm fan sucking all the air out the top I did it that way so that less dust would get in to the system also

I did this on my old xbox , but i did not wont to jack the power from the dvd so i used a Ac/Dc adaptor.

and are your stock fans modded to 12v or just the 120mm.
I like the blue led , i did n;t know you can swap RF boards i have a spare i might give it ago.

just the 120mm fan is 12 volt, the stock fans are still all stock, ya with the RF boards you can swap any of them all it is when you turn it on you have to resink your controllers to the new Rf board

I plan on doing something with my xbox 360 cuz it gets too hot with these new games.Maybe the 12v fan mod or this one.
Do you recommend any fans?

My 360 is still working perfect, I would say use the 120mm or 140mm fan just because the spin at a lower speed so less noise from it and they move more air then the 80mm fans, I didn't mod the internal fan for the fact that with that 12 volt mod it makes it loud all the time because the fans are running as fast as they can. I also the the 120mm fan pulling the air out because heat rises so it pulls it right out of the system

I did the 12v fan mod for the fan inside,everything is cool but for some reason im getting a disk read error with halo:reach.

maybe the eye for the dvd drive is dirty that can cause random problems on random games :/ or the fan could be drawing to much and not allowing full power to the dvd drive, for the internal fan mod how did you do it? I've heard of the fan mod causing the dvd drive to get the wrong amount of power when you do the pin method (you know run a straight pin through the dvd drive power cable to the fan power wires) i have never tried that method for the fan mod, from what i have heard it has something to do with the fans getting the 5 volt from the standard power plus the 12 volt power off the drive at the same time

I did this on my modded xbox 360.I used a ac adapter to power the fan.

Pretty big fan you added on there, should hopefully keep the 360 going a bit longer anyway!

If it's a Xenon why didn't you run off the secondary fan header behind the RF board? It's an easy header to put on and activate at 12 or 5v. Like this: http://i34.tinypic.com/1xmqv.jpg

Also melting a plastic hole (not whole) with a soldering gun is NOT good for the tip, and definitely horrible for your lungs. Next time try a rotary tool or hole saw. Using something like this Multi-Purpose Hole Saws (HSS & Co 8) & Accessories Overview then simply sanding down the edges to remove the burrs leaves a fantastic hole that looks like it belongs. Finally, you can fit a 50x10mm heatsink inside a 360 with a 2nd gen aluminium CPU heatsink, right on top of the secondary heatsink on the 2nd gen GPU heatsink. With a first gen CPU heatsink you can sometimes squish in a full 70x12mm fan in the same place. So you can fit your fan inside, and give the 360 a more natural look. If you don't want to cut a whole in the case, the 360 actually has a small amount of venting around that part of the console too which can be used to draw in
