    Thanks for addressing me, but nope, this is all with IDE mode set in the BIOS, with no other hard drives connected to the system. I can try it on a different motherboard and see if that makes a difference. Will keep this thread posted.

    Hey InsaneNutter, I just tried this with a WD Blue WD5000LPVX drive, which is listed as compatible in the first post. But hddhackr failed, saying the sector checksum was wrong "<0000>". When I tried to backup sectors 16-22 in Windows using Hex Workshop, it reported that those seven sectors...
