Now its gotta be said, the Digiex Staff love nothing more than playing Mario Kart Versus Mode non-stop, infact we have 3 hour+ games every week. But one major discussion is what one is prefered? Mario Kart Wii Has 32 courses (most courses so far) and lots of new charactors and now bikes as well as normal karts Mario Kart Double Dash 16 Tracks with only karts, but two racers per kart. Mario Kart 64 The one that bought the game into mainstream.. 8 Racers and single karts but some good tracks. My favourite: Double Dash Why I like this so much I dont know. To be honest I think the fact its not like its original and the ones after. It took a different approach and changed the Mario Kart style of play. For example you cant hand weapons out the back of your cart like normal, and you have two racers which can hold different weapons. Ive bought Mario Kart Wii and fell in love with it at first, we played a lot of Versus mode and Ive enjoyed online play. But when it comes down to a grudge match on VS it just seems less interesting. I mean having stunts, the new power slide system just makes the game too much of a chore to keep first place, meaning you have to do tricks and slides all the time to keep the speed up. So whilst the game offers more, I feel the style of gaming I enjoyed from Double Dash is missing. Maybe I cant forget the past?
I voted Mario Kart Double Dash as my favourite as believe it or not but it was my first experience with a Mario Kart game and the one I have played the most. I think I like it more than others because it feels like it has a more personal competitive edge to it than the other Mario Kart games. It might also be the fact that I know the tracks more than I do in the other Mario Kart games and so I have better strategies etc. For some reason some of the tracks in MKDD don't get boring and with 4 players anything can happen. I've seen races come down to the last second. I remember playing one race where I thought the GC had gotten the results wrong and the games should've come with a photo finish option as the race was that close. Haven't experienced that on Mario Kart Wii or any of the others so far.
Another vote for Double Dash, it was the first Mario Kart game I played and set the standard of how Mario Kart should be! It has some fantastic tracks, the two characters to one kart idea was ingenious and is generally just hours of multiplayer madness waiting to happen every time its turned on. It’s also one of three GameCube games to support lan play, which makes DoubleDash a viable game for lans with more than 4 people.
My vote went to 'Older version of Mario Kart' for the Super Nintendo version. This is the game that started the trend and I have been enjoying many multiplayer races and battles with my brothers and friends back in the days. The best thing about this version is, in my opinion, the small amount of items affecting gameplay balance (making MK64 my 2nd choice). The DS version was acceptable and I enjoyed online games a little while, but Double Dash made items overwhelming and guess what, the Wii version added some new items which 'removed' me from the game's online scene pretty fast. Oh and now that I think of it, the GBA version 'Super Circuit' rocks as well as it looks and feels like an updated version of the SNES original with more maps and multiplay. Always made my car rides fun..
Honestly, Wii version and DD are great, but I prefer Mario Kart 64, was the first Mario Kart game I played and was something new for me, one of the best games of my childhood
