Today I received a wonderful card from TV Licensing. I have never seen one of these cards before and I was quite amused when I opened it.

It appears that the government are spending their money well and on very worthy causes trying to get me to renew my TV license and making sure i tell them where I move.

All the goverment want is more of your money. The spend 30p on the card to make you pay the TV licence.

In the UK you need a licence to watch TV, if you don’t pay it and use a TV to receive broadcasts you can get in to a lot of trouble if caught.

More info: Television licence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think there is (or was) a loophole where you could legally watch TV on a laptop without paying for a licence as long as the laptop is not plugged in to a power source.

You can't even watch TV on a laptop without the license? Do you have to pay for the TV license and then pay for TV broadcast on top of that?

Nope, if the BBC had there way we would have to have a licence to own a computer as they can be used to download TV shows...

When you have a TV licence you can legally watch all the free to air channels: Freeview - Home / Channels and get a subscription to Sky (satellite) or Virgin (Cable)

You can get a subscription to either Sky or Virgin which will get you 100’s of extra channels like Sky One, which outbids all the free to air channels for any American TV show that gets popular over here (Prison Break, Lost, House, 24, Family Guy, Simpsons, Heroes, American Dad and so on)
