Not sure why you can’t update on Xbox Live, that’s always been the easiest way to update your console for me. Could be something to do with your router but as your Xbox can detect an update is available it should have internet access.

Do you already have the NXE dash? If so update to the April 2009 version of it, it carnt ask you to update then as you will have the latest version.

Well, I installed the 2009 April NXE and when I try to join xbox live... it asks for another update :'(

As usual, it fails to update. Is there ANY way to fix this??? I might never be able to experience Xbox live :(

By the way, all my connections pass the test.

Only thing I can think of is clearing the cache, go to the System Tab, Memory, Highlight your HDD press Y, then in this order X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X.

This will clear out the cache and any game updates downloads.

I’m running out of ideas to suggest, try and take the Xbox over to a friend’s house and connect to live there. It will help rule out a problem in your home.

By clearing my cache will my achievments and profiles be deleted?

Also, would it work if I brought my Hard drive to my friend and got the update on his xbox?

Nope it just clears any temp files and game updates from the hard drive, you could try that actually, I believe the update gets saved on your hard drive when you put it in another console. That happened with the NXE beta anyway.

The NXE is required by some new games such as Hawx, unless the game asks you to update to the NXE you don’t need it.

It should work fine on any 360 modded or not.

From what I have heard, most games being released in the future after Hawx and Xmen Origins, are going to have the NXE update packaged with the game.

Yep that’s correct, most games released now do already have the update on the disc.

I wonder why the update is being packaged with games now. I don't know why they are forcing the update on people that may not want it, unless it keeps people from modding the 360 in certain ways. Sorry, it's getting late so I don't know exactly what I'm rambling about |-).

Some very old version of the dashboard could be exploited however it was patched via Xbox Live before the exploit was common knowledge.

I guess it makes sense to keep people up to date, a lot of people still don’t have Xbox Live or have dialup internet so its an easy way for them to update.

That is true. I don't know how I would survive without Live. It opens up so many more options for the 360 and the games.

Yep, unlike the first Xbox live is a massive part of the 360 and one of the many reasons I enjoy it so much.

Me too. I just noticed that my Xbox Gold membership ran out and needs to be renewed. Must do that before my big Burnout session with Nimrod tomorrow (today for you guys ;) ).
