XP users: What's keeping you from upgrading?

Why would people not upgrade from Windows XP? Home users in particular - I know that XP will survive for a long time to come in the corporate world.

It's not a bad OS by any means, but... it's starting to feel dated. In my opinion anyway.

Is it the cost stopping you from upgrading to Vista or 7?

Is it the Don't-Touch-A-Running-System mantra?

I use XP and I don't think that it's becoming dated just yet. I haven't changed OS since I moved onto XP because I don't think that I would benefit from changing to Windows 7 (or any other OS), making it a waste of time and a lot of hassle for nothing.

In short: I can do everything I want to on XP so theres no real reason for me to switch.

 

Just a question I wanted to add to the mix:

Theres many reasons to stay with XP as Rustwick stated, "It just works with everything he needs" but what about the view point of developers, some new technology doesnt exist in XP so should they add additional time to support it?

XP in its current state runs everything I need, however I'm on Windows 7 just because the OS itself is more realiable and I havent heard of many programs that dont work in XP that do in Windows Vista/7.

(I'm no programmer, nor do I have a major understanding of it, but I know a few features and stuff arent available in XP like DX10)

 

For me, it's keeping my tweaks and running speed. I've tried Windows 7 and it doesn't run as nicely as I'd like, it's all to do with how it handles the cache and I'd really rather not get 8GB of RAM to ensure I don't have to wait forever for the cache to empty. If anyone wants to try and emulate what I'm talking about, let Windows 7 fill the cache entirely, then load a biggish program that isn't in the cache, in my experience it takes a very long time to empty the cache out to load the new program.
Also, there's the lack of need for the new features, DirectX 10 is rarely exclusive I.E. Halo 2 for PC, supposedly vista only and DirectX 10 only, but the checks were bypassed and it runs fine under XP. But yeah, most of the new features I'd wind up hunting down and disabling to save resources, so I may as well just stick with what I have now.

 

DX10 isn't much to worry about at the moment as it does only support a few games, though of course time will change that. Also I believe there is a crack or something that allows support of DX10 on XP. Personally i'm on Windows 7 (technically i'm on my PSP, laptop cord shot) but its only the 7100 beta and if I wasn't using that I would take XP over Vista due to speed and reliability. When Windows 7 first comes out it'll be too expensive for me, so I may downgrade to XP and wait for price drops.

 

Number of reasons for me.

1. vista takes up about half the memory on my computer (well not half but a lot)

2. The current lack of money ( so I cant get a new computer)

3. XP just comfortable and I am Used to it.

I suspect that reason three is the same for a lot of people. XP is like a comfortable chair that you've spent ages braking in. and you dont want to have to do it again with another chair. Just my thoughts

 

Point 1 is pointless, it uses the ram to cache programs. Would you rather it be empty and unused? Kinda like buying something and never using it.

I thought there was no upgrading path from XP > 7??????? Only Vista > 7?????? If it IS possible, can anyone tell me then how I can upgrade to 7 out of XP?
