Reading this got me thinking you don’t really need cable or sky these days, cable in the UK is rubbish as far as I’m concerned... all the programs I would be interested in watching such as Lost, Prison Break, 24, Family Guy, The Simpsons and so on are shown on Sky One which you can’t get on cable.

I think channel Bittorrent is the only reason you need to cancel your cable, it’s nice just been able to think I want to watch the new Prison Break and Family Guy episode today, click download and go off to make a cuppa tea. When you come back from drinking your cuppa your evenings TV is downloaded with no adverts and in HD if you chose to download that copy of the episode.

Even if we had cable or sky I don’t really think I would watch it much, I prefer just to download something and watch it when I want, plus it always nice not to mess about skipping adverts every 10mins.

I think the only reason we have TV is the deal you got with having TV, Phone and Internet. Can't complain much about Virgin's phone service, their internet service seems fine to me now (not as many problems as there used to be) and I haven't watched cable in years. I think the only use it gets is when my Mum and Dad watch some movies and catch up.

I never watch TV anymore. I can download all the shows I want to see, and see them faster than on TV, since I'd have to wait for them to be translated, etc. The only thing I watch from time to time is Discovery channel or National Geographic, but TV has had it's time. People want to decide when they want to watch something themselves, and not have it decided by the TV makers.

I totally agree with you there, this is why I like Windows Media Centre (Or any digital video recorder) I’ve set my PC to record anything I would normally watch so I don’t need to worry about missing the start or even watching it at all. I also like how if I don’t watch the program as its broadcasted I can skip the adverts when I’m watching it later on.

I’ve heard about them DreamBox’s, people like to hack them so they can receive PPV and encrypted channels for free don’t they? I’ve seen them go for quite a lot of money in the past on Ebay in the UK.

In Finland (where i live) they closed the "traditional" tv-broadcast at the end of last year, Did'nt bother to buy a digital receiver so I've been without a tv for nearly nine months now. And I don't even miss it at all. You can get everything worth watchin from the internet.

In Poland there is a still lack of good internet providers so not all of my homies can watch videos on demand from web. Additionally cable tv providers gives packets with all media together(TV+Phone+WEB) so its cheaper but all of them suxx. There should be something like global web provider who will make it all cheaper and reachable for everyone so people in my country would cancel their cables...

Alright, it always seems like a pain in the ass to find sites that have shows to download, and theyre usually all low quality (like youtube quality) and at least a season old, so where are you guys going to get tv shows?

There are many websites out there decicated to brining you the latest TV shows, a well knwn public site is EZTV.

You will need a torrent client to download the files on there, such as uTorrent.

    Reasons to cancel:

    1.Taxes too high
    2. Speed to low
    3. Connection error many times(when playing most)
    4. High ping
    5. It's not free and it should be

I think InsaneNutter was talking about cable TV and not cable internet Bruno. If that's the case it seems you've got a bad ISP :(

I’m guessing you enjoy Sky one then? In the UK all the good programs in my opinion are on sky... even if we did have sky I would sooner download the programs I want to watch as I could watch them in my own room then, someone is always watching something in the front room in the evening.

The thing is you might have 800 channels but I bet at times your looking through and there’s nothing but rubbish on! ;) Another reason I like channel internet is I have the new episodes of Prison Break right now to watch with no adverts in and in HD.

I believe things have got better as I hear Sky are showing the new episode’s tonight? However for people with just cable or standard TV like us channel internet saves the day ;)

That is very true. Also Sky + gives you the ability to record anything and have it stored forever. I have many films recoreded so I can watch them whenever I like.

Satalite is cool. I'd love to have it. My cable provided offers me really great cable with HD. I've got a cable box for it which lets me receive alot of channels. I'm happy with it, though I would really love it if they had fiber optic internet here. They don't even provide fiber optic internet for my state. Lol, Yeah, I live in a ghetto state. I don't really like satalite that much cause of it cutting out every time it rains or something and here they charge alot for an addition satalite to pick up internet. Which the speed for that doesn't even get near as fast as my cable now. As far as xbox live martket place and stuff that is a great idea. It does just about make you want to cancel your cable or satalite. Though some places don't have alot of shows and movies to offer.
