I tried this on my PC but when I opened the device manager there was nothing concerning a hardware ID...in fact I have tried all of the solutions given on this thread and none of them have worked...I have a generic bluetooth dongle with the part no. BD-001 and so far nothing I have tried has worked as far as it being detected and installed or the driver file being detected and installed...I don't know what else to do...

    Finding Hardware ID

I couldn't work this out at first but then realised I hadn't noticed the extra tabs on the Properties page.

In Device Manager, right click on the yellow question mark against the bluetooth device and select Properties.

There are three or four tabs at the top, General, Advanced, Driver, Details.

Click on Details then select Hardware Ids from the drop down list. Mine had the following entries:

    USB\Vid_050d&Pid_016a&Rev_0388
    USB\Vid_050d&Pid_016a

I selected the bottom one with a mouse click and copied with CTRL-C, then pasted it in the INF file.

Scroll down the INF file to the Device section then as Deneme suggests, find the 'Generic' line. Paste your Hardware Id info over the stuff at the end of that line, after the BtUsb and the comma.

Close the file, close the Properties dialogue box then right click on the yellow question mark and select Update Driver, take it from there.

Like some other posters I originally only registered to thank Nimrod and Deneme for this so thanks a lot guys -- I could not have done this myself.

    Cheers

Actually u just can't download WIDCOMM 5.5.0.7800 and install it easily - it detects it's Dell and refuses to continue. A patch is required to install it.

    Many thanks!

I (like a few other posters here) registered to this forum just to thank Nimrod for his efforts. The "bloated" widcomm is now gone, replaced with something that actually works.

    Again, many thanks!!!

    ;)

I had a similar problem, and finding the correct driver was not easy for me. It's a good thing I got my bluetooth driver from this site that offered a free driver search tool as well as a list of manufacturers. So I didn't get lost to find the right one, which is compatible to my OS.

have a rocketfish usb rf-flbtad adaptor on winxp pro sp2 / dell dimension 2400. added the hardware lines to bth.inf (the generic line was under [Cambridge.NT.5.1]). had to make my cellphone visibile for 3 minutes in the bluetooth settings, and had to turn 'discovery' on in the pc bluetooth settings (control panel). even then, the pc wouldn't see my phone, but i kept making my phone visible again, until it finally caught. i was then able to send files to my phone (which was one at a time, whereas with a direct usb cable, i could just drag and drop many files). remember to turn off 'discovery' on pc, and turn off bluetooth on your phone when done.

Just wanted to thank the contributors and point out that this is still useful. Use an old Dell Inspiron Mini 9 for in truck SAR GPS mapping. The bloatware drivers did not recognize a Garmin Glo GPS sender. This works like a champ.
