Anything to do with Digiex / the UT server kind of got put on hold as both myself and Nimrod had final year projects and exams to study for.
Now that is all out the way we could think about moving the server, however we have a few problems.

The first been we have a really good deal with our host, well it was a good deal when the server was good as you say. Since then the hosting company went down hill, got bought out by another company who over subscribed the servers.

A key member of staff left and started his own company, he offered any existing customers a better deal with his company so we took the offer as to be honest it couldn't be any worse then the previous company. However as you have noticed things are not exactly better with this host so I guess were just wasting money to be honest unless you guys think its better than no server at all.

At the moment were paying £60 a year, which is quite cheap for a UT 2004 server. However none of the people paying for the server actually play UT 2004 anymore but agreed as a lot of the regulars liked the server we would keep it going.

Really we need a dedicated box for it, or a shared server that is not shared with so many people.

The cheapest dedicated box from OVH, the company we have 2x dedicated servers with at the moment is £15 a month + what ever the VAT works out as. However if you dont pay 12 months upfront there is also a £50 setup fee.

The upfront cost of moving to another server would be more than were paying a year at the moment, I also have a feeling some of the people paying towards the server are not going to want to anymore at the end of this year which would also be another problem if that did happen.

Maybe if we can see what regular players are willing to commit we could look around for alternatives to our current host.

Ok thats great, ill try and look about this week at other dedicated providers and see what the best deals are at the moment, then we can work out exactly how much it will cost per month.

Obviously I'm willing to change host and pay for a bit of the server especially if others are willing (reduced costs and what not). Any idea when our current deal runs out InsaneNutter?

Were paying monthly at the moment, so we can cancel anytime really. The next payment is due around the start of July.

    Hi again,

The server is up but is stuck in a loop that makes it impossible to join a match in progress and play. Can someone reboot it when you get a chance?

    Thanks!

I'm aware the current server is horrible and have been looking for alternatives, I have looked at hosting the server with OVH. The Digiex webserver is hosted with OVH and we can not really fault them :) (This is a dedicated box, not a shared server like the UT 2004 server is hosted on at the moment.)

However when hosting a UT 2004 server we have come across a problem we have never been able to solve which makes a UT2004 server hosted with OVH unplayable.

Basically the player will join the game and have a great connection, then every 10 seconds random lag spikes will appear for a second causing the players ping to jump to 900+

In the past myself and Nimrod have spent hours messing about trying to find the cause of this with little success.

Today I have been messing about with a fresh server that has no mods or anything installed, I just can not get rid of the random lag spikes. Yet if I download the server to my home computer a player can join from the internet and play perfectly. Obviously my home connection is not capable of hosting a server for lots of players, however the random lag spikes do not happen which makes me think its nothing to do with the configuration of the UT server its self.

Things might soon improve for the UT server then, although I wouldnt hold your breath... at-least they admit a problem exists.

    Hello,

I think MistyGlen Map is boring when we play against bots : run to flag, jump in opponent tank, and go home.... too easy.

I made changes for my personal use: the bots dont only use Scorpio; now, they use hellbenders too and .... tanks :D
It is not so easy to capture the flag. Bots play almost like humans.

If you want to use the 'new' map, it is in FTP.

    Hey, thanks for that Gorge.

I did download the map the other day, I will get it converted and put it on the redirect and server so people can play it.
