my ahci is off for sure but after the flash and a restart, everything seems to be fine except the LBA size is different, 488395055 instead of 488397168. are there any reason this might be? TIA

Hello, I recently bought a 250GB Hacked HDD at ebay, was recognized by the console and it works fine, the problem is that I can only use 182GB, 42GB HDD is still free, but when trying to install a new game, restart the console alone.

What should I do to be able to use the full capacity of the HDD?

What would be the quickest and easiest way to do this?

Thanks and Apologize for bad english:)

Yes, already formatted 2x and still the same error ...

This problem is common by the way, look what the seller says in the advert:

It is unable to use the full 250GB capacity if you plug the 250GB Hard Disk Drive

Module directly in your Xbox 360 host. To use the whole capacity, please use the USB Hard-Drive Transfer Cable to connect the host with your PC.

Now, how do the Xbox use all the space available?

So here's a question, I just upgraded to a 250GB hard drive for my xbox. Is there any way to use the old 20GB in a laptop? Once I did the HDDSS swap on the WD I wasn't able to see it in the BIOS anymore, and if that's true with the 20GB drive, I won't be able to use it. So does anyone have a working HDDSS.bin for the 20GB that will turn it back into a regular drive? It's a seagate model btw.

Hello, I am new to the forum. If I want to only play xbox 360 games, Do I need to only flash the drive then format it w my 360 or do I need to also run the 2nd part w xplorer? I play no orginal xbox games so I'm not sure if I want to try to do this.

You only need to flash if you just want to play xbox 360 games. The only thing I don't know, and maybe someone can correct me on this, is if you'll be able to do things like play co-op on Halo 3 ODST or Halo Reach. When you try to play this without a MS certified (or hddss'ed hdd) it says you cannot play the game because you don't have the hard drive required. I do not know if it's looking to the second partition for that, or just at the security sector of the hdd.

M$ is total scum then! The xbox controller may be the last thing I buy from them... I'm not spending ~3-4 times the price on their friggin maxtor, seagate, or Fujitsu hard drive, that's doomed to failure. WD is awesome!

    I'll stop ranting now.

Thanks for that, I'm not playing either of those games anyway :D. I'm going to install and format the drive in the morning and see if it works.

Pretty sure WD is what's in all of the newer ones? Also, I no longer have any loyalty to any hard drive manufacturer. I dislike maxtor, and now that seagate is the same company their quality has been decreasing. WD was the official hard drive of an A+ Certification program I helped teach and we had 12 of them fail in a two week period. WD would not honor their warranty (they were all brand new, this is in 2006 though) and said that we used them outside of their intended use (we had them in different, yet identical machines and swapped them daily).

That being said, what's wrong with MS forcing you to buy their approved hardware? It's the exact same thing that Apple has done for years, and honestly MS marks their products up a lot less than Apple does. By enforcing a specific and small pool of hardware it allows them to provide a smoother, and overall better experience. If they didn't force the DVD rom's they used we'd have a ton more people hacking, if they didn't enforce hard drives then people would be able to share dlc, game backups, etc. Yes those are great things to be able to do, but it's only acceptable in the digital world we live in where we help ourselves to whatever is out there, and will do it any way we can so that we save a few bucks. Don't get me wrong, I'm guilty of this too, but I know it won't last forever and that we need to enjoy whatever digital freedom we have while we have it.

You make some strong points ;)

That's quite unfortunate about the 12 HDD failures. That many however raises the suspicion, was something done incorrectly. Much like the WD20EARS drives. I've found a lot of people don't know what they're doing. Hence multiple bad reviews.

This makes the hard drive identical to a MS official hard drive. It is not a firmware flash that can be just redone, you're telling the hard drive that it is in fact the regular MS hard drive. You should not get banned even if you play online. You can do whatever you want with this drive, including dlc and arcade games.

    InsaneNutter,
Thank you very much for the guide. Due to incompatibility of my SATA setup I did have a problem, a problem which others posting in this thread have encountered:
It was this message preventing me from progressing to the flashing stage that appeared after selecting 'Y' to create partitions (the last stage before the actual flash should take place) in hddhackr:

    Check Status 0x50 - Error!
Western Digital Vendor Intro failed on port 0xFD00
Make sure you have connected Western Digital Scorpio series Hard Drive
    If you choose to resend....etc

I had no such problem when i tried the flash in a relative's PC who has a Gigabyte X58 chipset board. The flash went completely to plan, as per your guide and my WD2500BEVT is now successfully installed and working in my 4GB Slim. Just for info, my drive was manufactured in July 2010.

Thanks again and I hope this bit of info helps confirm your responses to people who are having the same problem.

    :)

Just out of curiosity, what is your SATA chipset on your motherboard?

    Silicon Image SiI3114

The board is an old DFI Socket939.

Is it the Lanparty UT or the Infinity series? My friend has a Lanparty UT and he had to do his flash on his laptop which had an Intel chipset. If that won't work for you, you can find a SATA controller card for cheap on eBay.
