PC gaming doesn't really get as much attention as it used to, so here is a post for any PC gamers out there. You can play the console exclusive Sonic 4 on your PC, in HD right now. Here are a couple of screen shots / videos I made of Sonic 4 running on my PC, the sound on the first one appears to have got slightly out of sync when uploading to YouTube, however you can see it works pretty well. Videos can be watched in 720p. How can I do this? To do this you will need the GameCube / Will Emulator, Dolphin. You can download version 2.0 of the emulator for 32 or 64bit Windows and Linux from here: Dolphin, the Gamecube and Wii emulator - Downloads: Dolphin v2.0 If you have a 64bit OS, use the 64bit version as it will perform better than the 32bit one. To get the game you will either have to download it on your Wii or obtain it from else where, Digiex can not host a download for it. The game should work pretty well on a PC with a 3ghz Dual Core processor or faster and a mid range graphics card. The faster the processor the better. The game runs at 60fps on my PC, however does drop as low as 30 in some action scenes, however it is still more than playable. My System Specs: Core2Duo E4500 @ 2.93Ghz Geforce 8800GT 256MB 4gigs Ram Windows 7 Ultimate x64
can i run it with my epic failed PC? AMD athlon 3200+( superclocked to 2.4 ghz) Power color ATI HD 3650 512 ram 512 of ram Win XP sp3
Oh man righteous. I didn't realise that game had hit Wiis, and I also tend not to realise I'm able to emulate a wii. I'll HAVE to try this. Edit: Well, after completing Sonic 4 this way. I feel pretty satisfied, I didn't notice right away, but be sure to set your aspect ratio to the correct one under the settings. Doing that for me sped the game up considerably, although I did get slowdown quite a bit throughout though, not massively reduced, but say, 90% speed. For those curious; I'm running a Core 2 Duo E6600(x64) with a nvidia 8800GTS.
Hmmmm may have to check this out. My PC can handle most GC and Wii games on the Dolphin emulator. Thanks for the post InsaneNutter!
Even with a new laptop you'd still have quite some trouble running this emulator. Even if you could get full speeds on a laptop it would more then likely overheat to the point where the laptop will shut itself off.
Yeah, I know, but still my old laptop is half-dead, so I have another reason to look at the performance of new laptops
Does it Work on my PC? AMD Athlon (tm) 64 X2 Dual Core processor 5200+ (2CPUS ), ~2.7 GHz Nvidia Geforce 6150SE Nforce 430 258MB 5GB RAM Windows 7 Extreme 32 bits
It Worked with 64/65% speed with a litte lag on the homing attack now i'll try to play sonic colors ^^
The gameplay physics of Sonic 4 are terrible, with Sonic Generations available on PC, there's no reason for a horribly flawed game like Sonic 4 to exist. Sonic Generations = Back to the Roots!
Could i play it? Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit 2GB RAM AMD (Phenom) 9500 Quad Core Processor 2.2GHz NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT
Probably not at full speed, a 2.2Ghz processor is a bit weak for Dolphin, you really need 3ghz+ for a smooth experience.
I've been playing it on my laptop for a while... the speed isn't perfect and i've had to turn the sound off when i play it, but other than that, I've had no trouble with emulation.
Sonic 4 has been released on the PC for anyone still wanting to play it, you can buy it on Steam: Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - EP I on Steam Should run better on older PC's than it does on Dolphin.
