    I use Unity3D, a free (unless you earn too much money with it) game engine.

    First, I'd like to say that, although I AM an amateur, I am not completely incompetent. This thread is not about an unrealistic teenager's dream of making the best game ever. Even if I may not be able to complete this project, I will definitely be able to make something playable, and hopefully enjoyable. I have all the time I want anyways, that's the beauty of not working in some big company ;)

    English is not my first language BTW.

    I started working on some kind of hybrid of Adure Dreams and Dark Cloud. More precisely, It will be a turn based Rogue-like with town-building (and possibly inhabitant-recruiting) and pets raising (think pokemon - ish, but more tactical of course).

    Here is a summary of what I plan to do :

    • There will be several dungeons of varying difficulty, and different types of maps.
    • the dungeons will be randomized every time you enter or exit them.
    • Your level will always be reset to 1 when you enter/exit a dungeon
    • Same for your pets(unlike Azure Dreams).
    • You will sometime find non-agressive NPCs inside the dungeons who will give you side-quests. Some simple puzzles too.
    • Some equipment customisation. Equipment will have to be repaired, only in town or with repairing items found in the dungeons;
    • Limited number of items/pets you can bring in a dungeon (will probably vary);
    • Pets will be found in dungeons or obtained as side-quest rewards. Some will leave when you exit the dungeon .Maybe there will be a "happiness-meter" for some pets);
    • No perma-death, it's too easy to copy your saved game to cheat it anyways.
    • When you die in a dungeon, you will "respawn" in town and lose everything you had brought to the dungeon, and you town may be damaged. Autosaved ?
    • Town building similar to Dark Cloud 2, you will have to find materials in dungeons.
    • Limited inventory space.
    • Limited ability to backtrack in a dungeon, there will be one-way-paths and, sometimes, timers.
    • Improving the town will be required to advance the game, and will also improve your character (allow you to improve your equipment, store more pets in your stables, positive statuses etc).
    • Ability to give direct orders to your pets through a menu
    • A "hard mode" with "real time" dungeon crawling, same gameplay but real-time.

    I hope I'll have made a playable beta by the end of this summer. I have just started actually coding it (I have already made some random map generators...), so I can't post pictures yet. For now, all I have is a little guy made of spheres and cubes who walks around on a map and faces the direction you want.

    I am interested in criticism and suggestions, or even 3D models etc, but especially about a story. That's the part that worries me the most.

    Any idea ? I don't need anything too complicated, actually the setting would probably be more important.
    It has to allow unrealistic abilities and hure monsters, basically.

    The obvious choice woild be heroic-fantasy, with dragons and imps etc, but it's not very original... On the ther hand, I would not need an explanation for everything the hero , the pets or the enemies could be able to do, it'd just be "magic".

    I have also thought of a pre-historic setting, but I don't like the idea that much : not enough possibilities for dungeon traps and puzzles, and only "unrealsitic" equipment customisation makes sense (what would make you able to counterattack more often when you wear that loincloth ? What could make you invisible ?). And what would be the boss battles ? They can't all be mammoths !

    I don't really like Modern/post-apocalyptic/Cyberpunk, but I have to admit it would suit my needs : not having to think wether some ability or trap etc is unrealistic (replace "magic" with "science"), and opens possibilities for "weird" items (speed boosts, see-through-walls,etc) that would not be OK in another "realistic" setting, and a huge variety of mutants and/or robots.

    Of course, there's always the possibility of "wacky" settings.. Think of Pikmin.

    Maybe one of you already has the world I need in his demented brain, ready to be exploited by me (6)

    Yes, i have what your looking for. I've been traversing the web looking for oppertunities to help out with creating a story or universe and you're the 3rd try today, i would like to help out long term aswelll as creating this one story and setting, if you're intersted please email me at brendan-gifford@hotmail.co.uk, my first idea is that apocalypse has literally just happened and it turns out that killing all life actually clogs up the way to heaven and hell, this place can be called Waring. When heaven and hell got overloaded they decided to recall the armies aswell as to stop killing alll life but they got sent to Waring aswell and now territorily fight in this forgotten realm. Idea 2. Young boy wants to explore the world, see's only a small portion untill he runs out of money and loses desire and wallows around in a royal town. The king is to be replaced while he and majority of the guard fight off wilderness, no one wants the responsibilty, as it is iclined that they will be beheaded if they slip up, so they drag in the young boor who is now a young man, he gets to work on explanding and conqoring, i wish i could give you more details but sadly i need an email before i give out all info, please email me, i want to help, bye!

    I can help you out if you need any beta testers. I have some basic knowledge of finding bugs. (Volunteerly helping ou Electronic Arts Los Angeles and Black Box with their issues in game called Need for Speed World.)
    I have limited time though, as exams are coming up and I also have to defenc my research near future.
    Email is club.rv@hot.ee , if you want to contact.

    One thing though: Let the begiining of story develop through the first fases of game, then make the story next to rest. I have my own idead, but they don't suit very much with your game.

    Azenor, I have sent you an e-mail. Gifford, I have sent you an e-mail and personal message on DigiEx, with the same content.

    • I still progress a bit slowly, but I have made a few things already :
    • Height varies, dungeons don't have to have a flat ground. Will affects ranged attacks (they can miss) and damage (more damage when you are higher). And only some creatures can climb to a much higher spot. Everything can fall as low as they want (and take damage).
    • The items (only the basic class) are done, as well as the inventory GUI (just a bar on the bottom of the screen with itel icons. Moving your mouse over one displays a description, right clicking one drops it in front of you, left clicking one uses the item. Walking over an item makes you pick it up automatically (no "Burdened" status, I don't want to make one).
    The camera and basic character controls (walking and facing another direction without moving) are done too.
