This tutorial is NOT built for hddhackr.exe version 1.30. Use hddhackr version 1.25 for this tutorial...that v 1.30 link should be removed.

If you want to use v 1.30:

Run hddhackr and note the port your 250GB is on. The port is the alphanumeric sequence in bold:

    0) 0x09E0 SATA Sec Master WDC WD2500BEVT-00ZCT 11.01A11

Flash it using the method described in the tutorial. You will notice it didn't ask you to create partitions 0/2/3. Because it didn't! Go ahead and restart your computer as it tells, BUT boot into the drive with hddackr on it again. YOU need to create those three partitions. Do not type in "hddhackr" at the C:\ prompt. Instead, type this and repleace 09E0 with your own port:

    hddhackr C 09E0 A0

This will create the three partitions. If you're using Xplorer to put some files back/restore Partition 2, it will most likely give you an error like "FatX drive not found" or something. BEFORE using Xplorer 360 to put your files BACK, you need to put this new, hddhackr'd drive into your Xbox 360, format it via Drive Settings or whatever, and create a new offline profile.

This will format the drive as FatX and create the necessary folders. I don't know if you need to make a new offline profile, but I did.

THEN you may replace Partition 2 with Xplorer 360 and your profiles/save games with Xplorer 360 250GB edition.

Whew...this guide needs to be updated! It does NOT work as wrttien.

I'm able to get in DOS and pull up HDDHACKR, but when asked for the number at the beginning my hard drive I want to hack says Hitachi something something, even though its a WD Scorpio Blue 2500BEVT right out of the packaging. I tried looking into the Bios for my laptop, but can't find where to change the settings. I use a HP Pavilion dv9000. I also hooked it up via USB case. Any suggestions?

Okay so I used v 1.30 and flashed it, then tried to create the partitions manually, but it gave me an error. I tried restoring the drive with the undo file, but it gives me "Can't write firmware to drive! DRQ Error: 0x0816"

I'm out of ideas and hopefully not totally screwed my hdd.

    Another question.

Okay, so I downloaded all the files and renamed the files HDDSS_250GB.BIN to HDDSS.BIN, and then restarted my computer.
I get to the part with Windows Millennium Emergency Boot, and type in the words hddhackr and pressed enter.
Nothing appears after that? The screen stays the same and doesn't show me my other drives?

My western digital is connected with a usb at the moment.

Yes, the dos is on the flashdrive. I booted off from that.
    I'm guessing then I can't use this?

Ok GTA Iv Installed and plays fine. Ive deleted system cache and im redownloading MW.

Any other things i could try to improve my success rate?

Edit: MW still downloaded as corrupt data. Deleted Profile, Recovered Profile and trying again....

Edit 2: Soz for double post^ Still downloads as corrupt data. This time it thought it was homefront for some reason....

Any Other Ideas? Im Desperate. Id like to try it with another account. But this is the only one that has big games from the marketplace on it.
I was "given" The account, I think its from russia or something would that effect the download from the marketplace?

Hi, I have an original 250GB HDD from the MW2 limited edition it was working fine but then it started to run slowly so I "cleared the cache" after that the drive show as "unformatted" I try to format it but it returns to "unformatted" so I connect it to my PC via USB(transfer Cable) and format it with windows 7 disk manager and then use "fat32format" for fat32 as a tutorial I read recommended, connect it back to the xbox format it ... and nothing I have the same problem.

    Now here is my question:

If I use the methods from here and flash a HDDSS.BIN file etc and hddhackr etc... It could work? Should it try that? i mean this is for modded HDDs, the one that I have was originally for the xbox. Note that when I connected the drive for the first time to my PC it didnt show any partition, I lose my original HDDSS.BIN file when I format the drive from my PC?. If I didnt deleted it, how can I extract it? for this purposes.

Sorry for my english, I hope that anyone could help me =( or Maybe I need to forget my xbox drive and use it as an external HDD =(.

How to Flash on a Mac

I can verify that you definitely can use a Mac to flash the drive. In my case, the SATA PCI card I ordered off eBay never arrived (it's been over 30 days now-coming from Hong Kong), so i got tired of waiting and decided to see if I could use one of my Macs.

There are 2 ways that I know of at this time, for flashing on a Mac.
Easiest (and most expensive): Buy the Xecuter USB Pro from Team Xecuter ($60) and use it under Bootcamp
Least Expensive: Use rEFIt to boot from a bootable DOS flash drive

All the information needed it already out there, but it's a pain gathering it all together and working out the kinks. Hopefully, this saves someone else some time.

The hardest part for me was finding a Mac that could boot from DOS on a flash drive. It seems a hit and miss type of thing, but I suspect most recent Macs will work just fine.

I tried 2 models. A late 2007 MacBook (2,1) did NOT work. A 2009 Mac Mini did work. However, anyone who's taken a Mac Mini apart will know what a complete pain in the @ss it can be to swap the hard drive (although it's a whole lot easier than the older iBooks). I recommend finding a more recent Mac Laptop instead, or even a Mac Pro, which would obviously be the ideal option.

    Steps:
    1) Download rEFIt from: rEFIt - An EFI Boot Menu and Toolkit

    2) Burn it to a CD-RW

    3) Create a bootable DOS flash drive, using the instructions in the tutorial

    4) Replace the Mac's hard drive with the drive you'll flash (in my case, it was a WD3200BEVT). DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER HARD DRIVE ATTACHED!!!

    5) Plug the flash drive in the Mac's USB port

    6) Turn on the Mac

    7) Immediately insert the CD

    8) Immediately hold down the option key

    9) You'll see the rEFIt icon pop up. Select that.

    10) You'll then see a icon for the flash drive (I think the label says something about "legacy OS"). Select that.

    11) Run hddhackr and follow the rest of the tutorial to flash the drive.

    12) After turning off the computer, put the flashed drive in a USB or Firewire enclosure, replace the Mac's hard drive, and boot into Bootcamp.

    13) Follow the rest of the tutorial for transferring files.

    A few things to note:
    a) Based on all the problems people have reported with hddhackr 1.30, I used 1.25. Worked like a charm.
    b) After flashing the drive, I put it in my Xbox and reformatted before restoring partition 2, just in case.
    c) I used Hoffman's partition 2, since I didn't have an existing Xbox drive.
    d) rEFIt does not seem to work properly if you have a Bootcamp partition on the Mac. No matter what other legacy OS partition you select, the Mac will always boot up from the Bootcamp partition, if it's attached. Yet another reason to make sure no other hard drive is attached, other than the one you're going to flash.
    e) It's also possible to partition the flash drive so that rEFIt is on the 2nd partition, eliminating the need for a CD. However, the software for creating the bootable flash drive that's linked in this tutorial does not allow for a partitioned flash drive. You'll have to find some other way to created the flash drive. I used the CD because it was the easiest.
    f) Some anti-malware software may complain that Xplorer 360 Extreme is malware. That's because so many copies of this on the various file share sites ARE infected. Make sure you only get it from the link in the tutorial, and scan it before using. You may have to turn off you anti-malware software to use it.
    g) My Win XP setup complained that a .dll file was missing, whenever I tried to run Xplorer 360 Extreme. A quick search of the .dll (can't recall the name) gave me a link to a downloadable copy from a reputable site. I put the file in the same folder as the application, and it worked just fine.

Key words: Boot Intel Mac DOS Flash Drive
