Understood, but I don't have any partition 3 data to move, so I skipped it after restoring the partition 2 file provided in the tutorial.

When I pop in a blank PNY flash drive, my Xbox asks me if I would like to format it for use on the console. Can't I just pop in a blank hard drive and have the console automatically format it for me without going through the whole take-my-computer-apart-and-flash-it process? Then duplicate my Partition 2 and 3 on my PC afterwards? The only reason I ask is because I plan on giving my old hard drive to my baby bro and sis for their Xbox so they can keep playing all the DLC zombie maps on Black Ops.

Microsoft had a update for the flash drives and allowed them for storage, they also sell flash drives with the ms logo for 2 times the price.

Microsoft is greedy and only allows hard drives they produce and unofficially hacked hard drives(they never patched using hacked hard drives or they can't detect them.)

For the dlc maps you need to do a license transfer for it to work on a different console.

    and for this
all you do is disconnect the main hard drive sata power & data cables and hook them up to the drive you want to hack

I do plan on transferring the licenses to my new console. But, my little bro and sis's Xbox (my old one which holds the licenses) will never connect to Xbox LIVE again once I give it to them. So they will be able to play the DLC's.

Registered just to thank the OP. Lost a 360 HDD and a PS3 video card in a matter of weeks. Replaced the PS3 and since I couldn't transfer the HDD, I was able to get it up and running in my 360 as a replacement. Thanks a TON!

It's been a while since i've done this and now i'm doing it for a friend, and just wanted to be sure this transfers dlc like map packs over to the new hard drive. Does it do that?

@ glg and anyone else having problems

I have VLC media whatever on my pc so when i downloaded the hddss.bin file it put into vlc format, had to use my wife's laptop to put the correct version of the file on my bootable usb drive, hope that helps, because otherwise I havent had any problems yet, except xplorer 360 is taking its own sweet time to fully back up my original 120 gig hdd, other than that this has been very helpful

I have followed this guide step by step and everything works but I can not play Xbox 1 games. I get the following error.

The original xbox game has encountered

The original xbox game is not supported on your Xbox460 Consol. An update to support this game may be available. For more info, go to xbox/games

This original Xbox game has not been c...

I have tried 3 laptops to do this.
    1) Windows 7 64bit
    2) Windows xp 32bit
    3) windows 7 32bit

I don't get any errors but i can't play xbox 1 games which is frustrating.
I've copied the partition 2 from my 20G and from the web (hoff man's copy). I've also tried backing up the image of the entire 20G and putting it on the 250GB WD.

    Any ideas?

You can easily make VLC not recognize those .bin files. Just go into the preferences.

Also, the backup for me took an 1.5 hours for about 20GB, and that was sata to sata. Good gravy if you do 120GB with usb to sata...hope you have it setup for the night.

NOBODY FRIGGIN TOLD ME that in Windows it transfers the files to a temp folder, than transfers them all to the disk/folder you specify.
I attempted several times on my 64SSD laptop; well fail. It kept filling up my entire hard drive when I had 30GB left before the transfer

BEWARE, unless I'm missing something you may effectively need twice the space you are backing up.

I had this problem. Before I pulled the drive again to redo the partition, I tested my game again a week later and it went through the game update process and worked. I was really confused.

    trouble seeing hdd

When booting form USB drive using MS-DOS, hddhackr( version 1.3) is giving message " no ATA drives connected." The BIOS are set up for IDE, Compatible. The motherboard chipset is the intel p67. Could this chipset be the reason no drives are detected? Would loading Free-DOS onto the flash drive solve this problem or using an older version of hddhackr? Windows identifies the drive as being "active" in disk management and shows it formatted as NTFS. I've tried with the drive formatted as FAT 32 and NTFS. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your quick reply rick550- after reading pages 6-10 here I used my sata port 0, even though it's a sata3.0 and the hdd did appear. Since I already used a hex editor to flash the drive, I used hddhackr to partition and it said it partitioned successfully. Xplorer360 confirmed the partitioning. However now the xbox won't recognize the flashed HDD.

I'll try wiping the disk clean and re-formating later today. When windows formats, it askes to assign a drive letter. Should I assign one or leave it blank? It also has an option to make it "active", should I make it active?

Thanks for the help. The re-flashing didn't work. Must the HDD be formatted and a partition created or can the space be unallocated with no drive letter assigned. Xplorer recognizes the drive as an xbox drive, but xbox will not . I tried waiting to connect the drive til after the BIOS screen, but the drive wasn't recognized under HDDHACKR. I'll try on another computer when I can get access to another older one with SATA ports. Maybe I have one of those computers that doesn't work. For what it's worth I'm using an ASRock Fatality performance P67 motherboard and an i5-2500k processor with Gskill Sniper DDR3 1600 memory.

Hello everyone, I got the same message with my WD3200BPVT Scorpio Blue.

    1. I created my bootable usb flash drive with the "ms-dos" option.
    2. I ran hddHackr v1.3 the drive did flash but did not create the partitions.
    3. I ran hddHackr v1.3 again and partitioned the drive however it hung after reaching 100% of the partition.
    4. I powered down and botted on my Windows ME bootable CD and ran "fdisk" to to view the "non-dos" partitions but there were no partitions at all found.
    5. I created my bootable usb flash drive using the "free Dos" option, ran hddhackr and partitioned the drive again but after reaching 100% it spit out some errors and the system halted again.
    6. I booted using my windows me bootable cd again and there were still no partitions to be found again under "fdisk".
    7. Using Horizon, I'm able to see several folders ther were created on the drive.

Did anyone get their 320gb drive go through all the steps with no issues? Anyone got their 320gb drive fully working in their xbox 360? I went and bought a brand new 320gb drive and right now is a bout anchor......:(

I'm doing this on a gateway laptop with intel chipsets and SATA AHCI setting changed to "IDE". This drive was fully formatted and tested with Western digital's diagnostic tool and passed with no errors prior to flashing it.

Any help will be much appreciated.......
