The indictment reportedly acuses the company of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. As reported yesterday, hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz is currently listed as CEO of Megaupload. The company was already in a legal scrap with Universal Music Group following the inclusion of the label’s artists, including Kanye West, will.i.am, and Diddy, in a promotional video for the website. If they actively remove pirated content and do not encourage it then i see no problem. Most of these file sharing website as only in business because of piracy i imagine.
Anyone know if File Sonic is still restricting downloads? Plus, you have to wonder if prosecutors are going to use the data basis that the seize and go after the common user and not just the companies. Just food for thought for all registered users of megauploads.
Megaupload’s Kim Dotcom Gets $750,000 Back Just a little update on the megaupload progress. Kim Dotcom booked a valuable victory this week when a court ruled that $750,000 in funds and cars should be returned to the Megaupload founder. Among other things, Dotcom regained possession of a $301,000 bank account and his Mercedes-Benz G55AMG. Other property that was seized based on an order from the US District Court remains in the hands of the New Zealand authorities for the time being.
