Should I be getting a PS3?

So, in celebration of my new credit card and things generally going okay financially and life-wise, I decided I was going to put $50 down on a $299 PS3 Assassin's Creed 3 bundle. Plenty of time to save up the funds before it releases. I do know that this generation of consoles is on its way out and I probably shouldn't be buying this (and of course it isn't too late to back out), however:

    • Brother is moving and taking his BD player with him. While not extremely important (we're a Netflix family), it is nice to have.
    • Growing bored of my Xbox, especially with DUST 514 releasing and generally PS3 has better MMO support, etc and I really love Steam integration for Valve games -- just the concept
    • Could finally free my Xbox from the clutches of the family as the home media center and move it into my room for legit game sessions

However, I've been pretty ignorant of the PS3's best attributes, games, features, etc.
What I'm asking is, will this be worth the $300 -- should I hold off on buying it? If I do get it what games do I need (other than LittleBigPlanet)?

Edit: I should mention I don't care for the Move or anything of the type; I rarely played Kinect -- used it for voice commands mostly and don't really miss it.

I own a PS3 but honestly haven't played it in quite some time. If you can find a used one at 3.55 or lower, you could mod it depending if you don't really care about PSN, it's what I did anyways and that's really only why I turned it on. I suppose the best way to know is if there are many PS3 only games that interest you. If there isn't many PS3 exclusives that you'd like then chances are it won't get much play time or be worth the time/investment. I also got my PS3 used a couple years ago, it was the very first BC models which I thought it was a steal at the price and it really was. So if you also want to play PS2 games on it, you can always look around for BC models.

If you want actual facts on that lv0 key findings, go to a PS3 modding site, not a site like Eurogamer. They say the console is "Wide open" but it's really not. Only people on 3.55 can even use that at the moment and the chances you'll be able to go from 3.56+ OFW to CFW without a flasher is really slim (people with 3K models or higher are SOL no matter what). When the first 3.55 keys were let out the same thing was said, there is nothing Sony can do now and the 3.60 firmware completely took care of that. So at the moment, it's really too early to say what all the lv0 access can do at the moment, a lot of things are possible but that doesn't mean it'll happen.

He also states that it'll be the AC3 bundle, which hasn't came out yet. That means it'll definitely be a 3k+ model and not even a flasher could help for CFW. Only if they can crack the original NPDRM instead of overwriting it with another NPDRM can they actually have CFW on that model.

    I have a PS3 and 360
to be honest i never use the PS3 and its now in my 6 yr old daughters bedroom for dvd playing only, and occasional LBP play. i bought it for GT5 but after playing it i was disappointed with game a LOT . tracks and physics are great but boring playing it as no decent progression system
Anyway, i do find its better for the media player side of things like watching stuff from my pc

Hell yeah get a PS3. The PS3 is now fully hacked, so you can do whatever you want with it. Level 0 keys can be found on the web.

You can only go from 3.55 to 4.21 at the moment as i've already said. They still need to get through the chain of trust (if they can).

So far they've only been able to do this with yout own EID0. So they either need to be extremely good at Cryptology or find another way to get the decrypted keys. Mind you, the 360 and PS3 have been hacked for years and still no one has the keys for either console.
