Not really a shocker seeing steam/origin/Uplay dominate the PC scene Microsoft announced that the Games for Windows Live marketplace will close up shop on August 22, permanently ending the ability to purchase featured content. The Games for Windows Live service itself will remain operational, and purchased games will be unaffected by the closure.
It's a shame Microsoft never put any real effort in to Games For Windows Live, the Desktop app hardly did anything, you couldn't even message your contacts on it, let alone voice chat. I remember once i loaded up Tinker on Windows 7 just to i could have a quick chat with someone on Xbox Live. Sadly even the Windows 8 Xbox Live integration is useless, you can sync achievements and compare leader boards in some games... that's about it. Microsoft could have had something to rival Steam years ago, sadly they don't appear to have a clue when it comes to PC gaming these days.
Man, Microsoft shouldn't have never broke voice codec for private chat and game chat on gfwl. Such a shame, Halo 2 Vista will be never same again unless Skype joins the party. Hopefully, 343 will port the original halo trilogy for Steam.
Indeed games should work fine, its just the failed desktop client which will now do nothing more than let you download games purchased in the past...
Its a shame this is going. I did like getting achievements for the games on pc. Wondering if anyone can help me on here with Gear of War and Halo2. Its saying iv used my keys tomany times how do I get another one.
You can still get achievements on PC games, you basically just get purchase them as digital downloads any more. As for the activation limit the best thing to do would be contact Microsoft, maybe on the Xbox forums or something.
