If you have anything other than a PSP 1000 or PSP 2000 then use 6.20 instead for permanent installation. If you're already above 6.20 then use Chronoswitch Downgrader to go down to 6.20 OFW and then install 6.20 PRO CFW and you can use the permanent patch or whatever they call it. I've done this on PSP 3000 and PSP Go and it works. There's only a few games that require +6.20 OFW and odds are you can find patches for them if the games aren't already patched.

Hello, I followed this guide today and now I am completely unable to run any game with any settings, it simply hangs and freezes at the PSP logo when I try to start a game. For further clarification, I have a PSP 2000 and I previously had permanent CFW 6.39 running and everything worked perfectly. As per this guide, I downloaded/updated the firmware to 6.60, downloaded and installed CFW 6.60 PRO C, but opted not to make it permanent for utility. Ive tried running games in M33, Inferno, and NP9660 with the same result. Ive tried reinstalling several versions of CFW to no avail, frankly Im stumped at how or why this is happening. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on why this happened? Ive tried to run PSPIDENT to see if maybe something would be there, but it refuses to open that either.

The PS1 Emulator is built in to the PSP. You need to use a tool such as PSX2PSP to convert the game for use on the PSP.

    Yes you can.

I had this same issue on my PSP-2000 v1 slim TA-085

I read somewhere in this tread about start-up plugins, which seemed to be causing this: I had a folder called "seplugins" in memory stick root, simply renamed it to "x seplugins" and tried the update again "PROUPDATE", this time it rebooted without a full shut down, and then I was able to run the CIPL flasher to permanently update to the cfw.

Hi InsaneNutter! Thanks for the valuable infos you are posting here! I want to brief you with my situation. I live here in Asia. I want to buy a PSP-3000 in our local stores. My priority is to be able to buy a PSP with a color other than black. However, the only available PSP with a different color is a PSP-3006 that was manufactured in 2008 as what is mentioned in the box (I'm sure its default official firmware is 5.00). But there is a PSP-3001 that has been manufactured not too long ago (2012), and of course this will have a default firmware of 6.60. My concern is if I buy the 2008 one, will there be a chance it will get bricked or the cfw will not work at all when I follow your instructions, since I have an older DEFAULT firmware? Or is it better buying the 2012 model which has a default 6.60 official firmware?

It doesn't really matter which you buy as you have to upgrade to the official 6.60 firmware to follow this tutorial. Buy which ever PSP you think looks the best. Any PSP will update totally fine to 6.60.

My PSP was originally on 1.52 all those years ago.

So if you power the PSP fully off (hold the power button down for 6 seconds) and power it back on you only get the recovery menu?

What about if you power the PSP on with no memory card in?

    Thanks for your quick response

Yes I tried turning it fully off/on and again without the memory card each time it gives me the same screen and sinking feeling. It wouldn't be so bad if i could select any of the options on the recovery menu but it's stuck on >Back without being able to go >Back

Hi InsaneNutter, Thanks for your time and help, the PSP has suddenly booted properly, it seems to be working ok. i think at this point I will give it back to it's owner (my nephew) and suggest it might be time to get it serviced and cleaned.

By the way InsaneNutter! I'm curious if you will be able to go log in with your PSN account and play online or shop for items without being detected by Sony that your PSP is a hack? Thanks in advance!
