Hi all, I just Registered because I want to Share my experience, I bought this Xbox 360 slim 4gb long ago, I coincidentally had this WD scorpio 120gb that I hacked with a video from youtube using Hddhackr 1.2 long ago as well, well today with frustration because I couldn't play GTA SA, I started googling and found this forum, so I read thru many threads but all of them involved using a Desktop and a sata cable, well, as I have a HP pavillion dv2000 I followed the process to hack the HDD with HDDhackr 1.4 and I added the partition 0/2/3 then I mounted the HDD in a case and using Xplorer360extreme2 I could add the partition 2 to my harddrive and viola!!!!!

Wow, that was more difficult than it had to be.

I have an Xbox 360 slim with 4GB internal storage, which I won from Subway.

I bought this non-Microsoft 320 GB internal HDD from Amazon. I wanted to be able to play original Xbox games on it.

I was using the Xplorer360_320GB because that would make sense, right? I read how you should always use the 320 GB version to avoid corrupting the HDD.

Well this Windows 8 computer kept crashing the program when I would choose Partition 2 then choose the option to restore it.

However, it never showed the 'Restore Partion 2' exact option within this version of the program. I saw some posts in this thread that explained you shouldn't use the 320GB version of the program to restore Partition 2.

Using the 20/120 GB version of the software on Windows 8 (running in Windows 7 compatibility mode and as Administrator), the option for 'Restore Partition 2' was available. I chose the Partition2.bin, and the process took a couple of seconds.

I ejected the 320GB drive and plugged it into my spare Xbox. Halo 2 instantly loaded up without any issues.

yeah i got my hard drive yesterday because my slim was asking for original hard drive. i hddhackr the drive but never formatted the drive with the partitions 0,2,3. i only hacked the firmware of the drive. i stuck it in my xbox formatted the drive using the console. put in my xbox game nothing. i was like wth. so i tried your steps here and only partition 1 showed up. so i went back to hddhackr formated the partitions 0,2,3 and then i hooked it up to my computer and then restored the drive. after that i was hoping it didnt delete my stuff and thankfully it didnt. and now i am playing with my xbox with the ton of games i had laying around. also i got an windows error but i ignored it. figured it was something to do with windows not knowing how to read my drive.

long story short these steps worked. and the problems i faced was more what i did. by not preparing my drive correctly.

    thank you.

    Not working for me

Got Atari Anthology disc from eBay.
    Got 250G drive from Amazon.
Put drive in xbox360, powered on, put disc in, signed into XBL, tried play game and got ""The game couldn't start. Try downloading the game again."
Cleared Cache, checked for updates, no change...

    Found this site.
    Plugged 250G drive into PC.
Ran Explorer 360 Extreme2 as Administrator.
Drive > Open > Hard Drive.
See there are three partitions already.
Drive > Restore Partition 2 and select the Partition2.bin
    Let the process finish.
Unplugged drive from PC, install into xbox360, powered on, put disc in, signed into XBL, tried play game and got THE EXACT SAME ERROR MESSAGE.

Don't know if it matters but never at any point did I see any message on xbox360 regarding any update. Manually checked for update by going to Network Test, nothing came up. Downloaded latest update from MS support site to USB, nothing happens when put it into xbox360 and restart.

    Any suggestions?

Strange, not really sure what could be up there. If you connect the drive to the PC again do you see anything on partition 2? do any other games work, or not work?

I'll check the drive again. I don't have any other original xbox games. Is there a way to verify if this disc is good? or another way to verify if the emulator is working, like download something from XBL? Guess I have to troll eBay for another game on the list...

Not really unless you have a friend with an Xbox Classic or 360 who can try the game for you.

Ok got it working second time around

Did a few things different, not sure which thing made it work:

While drive was in xbox, I did a Format.
    Plugged drive into PC.
    Run program as Admin.
    Again saw Partition 0, 2, 3.
This time clicked on each partition, noticed none of them showed anything on them.
Performed partition 2 restore using "updated" bin (not the one from post #1).
Watched as it progressed, but the program crashed.
Opened the program again and checked Partition 2 and saw it has files on it now!
Put drive into xbox, powered on, put in disc, log into XBL, try to play game, prompted for update, update completed, back to play the game and it works!

    Thanks!!!

Do you mean system settings>storage? Because that didn't work for me. I was able to successfully restore partition 2 on my 320GB Xbox 360 Slim Hard Drive, but now for some reason my Xbox 360 Slim does not recognize it. And when I try to go back and fix the problem in Xplorer360, it now says "Could not find a FATX drive to open!" which is strange because I was able to access it earlier when trying to restore partition 2 and running Xplorer360 as admin. How can I fix this? I really need help! If I can't fix this, I will need a new hard drive and will have lost all my data. Please tell me there is a way to fix this without losing my data.

I used a Windows 7 Lenovo laptop computer while doing this. I would really appreciate some help to fix this!

You may have to do this.
Download HDDGURU > Software > Mhdd > Mhdd32ver4.6iso.zip (for burning to disc)
or HDDGURU > Software > Mhdd > Mhdd32ver4.6archive.zip (use this for a usb drive with dos on it)
To get dos on a usb drive follow insanenutters guide here and look for the usb drive dos part.

Will these steps work for a 250gb or 320gb Xbox 360 Hard Drive too? I know the tutorial said the steps are meant for 20gb and 120gb hard drives.

What if I don't have a MHDD bootable CD to do this?

You can burn one. Or you can make a bootable dos usb drive and put mhdd on it.

1.Create the usb drive. (open spoiler by clicking show)
2.After that is done extract mhdd32ver4.6archive.zip to the usb drive.
3.Then disconnect all hard drives and connect your xbox 360 hdd via sata connection.
4.Then boot to usb and type in mhdd and press enter. (you may have to change bios settings)
5.Then refer to my earlier post about how to use mhdd.
    For burning to disc
1.Download mhdd32ver4.6iso.zip and extract the iso.
2.Download SetupImgBurn_2.5.7.0.exe.zip and install the program.
3.Open the iso file and imgburn should automatically open or another program that handles iso files will open. Anything will burn fine.
4.Boot the disc (you may have to change bios settings) and mhdd should run automatically, if not then type in mhdd and press enter.
4.Then refer to my earlier post about how to use mhdd.

Am I right in assuming that you have to select Partition 2 on the hard drive and then hit Restore Partition 2? Is that what you're supposed to do? It said in the tutorial "If your hard drive is not 20gb or 120gb do not touch partition 3 as it will corrupt the data on it!" Because I think that's what ruined my hard drive. I think I accidentally selected Partition 3 instead of Partition 2. By the way, I have tried to do the Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility Update several times, and it never worked.
I may try this again with a secondary hard drive instead of using my primary. That is assuming 343 Industries doesn't port Halo 2 Anniversary as a separate title and market it for both Xbox 360 and Xbox One, or just Xbox 360. I'd be real disappointed if they didn't.

You don't have to mess with anything except the drive menu. You don't need to select partition 2.

Okay, then what did you mean by "don't touch partition 3 or it will corrupt the data on it!"? Because it's also possible I did exactly as the tutorial said to do, and my hard drive was ruined. And also, I'm wondering about those steps to fix Xbox 360 Hard Drive when Xplorer360 ruins it, would the procedure restore partition 2, or would I have to try again manually? I don't suppose you would know how it works, would you?
