Hi, it's me, NovaScotiaHFX again! It's been some time, huh? ;)

I have a new Samsung Galaxy J1 phone, bought about two weeks ago. I really like to use it when I'm on the go and don't have my computer with me, like tweeting, updating my Facebook statuses or uploading photos to Instagram. Now here's where the problem lies.

Since last Thursday (I think?), whenever I try to do anything on Instagram, such as posting a photo or liking something, it will freeze up and I have to keep force-closing it. It worked just fine before that time, but now I don't know what's going wrong. I've tried clearing the cache, moving it to my phone's SD card (as I think it may be an internal memory problem) and even uninstalling and re-installing it, but it will still freeze after only a few seconds. After I re-installed Instagram, when I open it I get sent to the login screen, but pressing any button will either freeze it up or make the screen go black or white.

I'm getting really riled up by this! I even had to stay up late last night just to try to find a solution, but to no avail and now I've lost a little sleep. I just want to get back on Instagram and start sharing my artworks again for the whole world to see. Could anybody help me get my Instagram working and freeze-free again? :-@

    Thanks in advance! :)

Instagram is updated all the time, so it could well be a newer version of Instagram which has caused incompatibilities with your phone.

You could try installing an old version of Instagram from Instagram on APKMirror, maybe the one from Jan 12th Instagram 7.14.0 (20120481) APK Download - APKMirror as it should have certainly been working on your phone then.

I would email also Instagram's Android Support: android-support@instagram.com with the phone you have, version of Android it is on and details of the problem, so a least Instagram are aware.

My Mum had a similar problem with Facebook on her Nexus 9 tablet, after an update in November last year Facebook would just crash all the time. However older versions of the Facebook app worked fine. Eventually an update fixed the problems with Facebook on her Nexus 9.

    Hi InsaneNutter,

Thanks for that tip. I'll try downloading the older version of Instagram onto my phone tonight, as I think the Instagram that keeps freezing is a newer version that's incompatible with my phone.

In the meantime, I've shot off an email to Android Support about the problem, and they should get out another update for Instagram that'll have it working again.

UPDATE: I've been able to get Instagram on my Amazon Fire tablet, though I had to visit that site InsaneNutter mentioned as the Instagram app is not yet available on the Amazon App Store (why, Amazon? :() Now I can re-engage with my Instagram audience again! I'll wait for Instagram to release a fix for their app on my phone, but for now I'll use my tablet to upload photos to Instagram.

But thanks for your tip anyway, InsaneNutter! :)
