Yes you need some way of getting in to the laptop to set a new password, if you don't know it then you need to resort to a tool capable of removing that password, allowing you to then set a new one.
Hi Panserch , recoverring the forgotten login passowrd is too complicated , as InsaneNutter said , you can bypass your login password to got into your Dell laptop , then you can set a new passowrd on Dell laptop , the end , you can use the new password to login
