A couple of days ago I was trying to think of ways it would be possible to play games on an unmodded 360. Then I remembered how it is possible to play burned demo on an unmodded 360. See where I'm going? Do you think it would be plausible to create a "demo" game? I wonder what Microsoft has done to stop this from happen. I'm putting on my thinking cap. *-)

I have a feeling someone might have figured it out by now if there was any possibility in that.

You can’t modify the content of retail games or demo’s otherwise you break the digital signature and the game or demo will refuse to load.

Yes it's possible. But you would need a copy of the signing algorithm used.

If you had than you could run unsigned code on the 360 anyway so wouldn’t need to trick the 360 in to thinking a retail game was a demo.

If you want to know what people have tried to run unsigned code on the 360 have a read here: Scenyx Entertainment Community -> Software Exploits Development / Research many different paths have been explored, the most successful been the old King Kong exploit on very old versions of the 360 dashboard.

It's all making too much sense. It's so interesting and disappointing at the same time. But how is disc signed?

P.S. Just thought I 'd add that I'm slowly picking things up on my own.
P.S.S. Is there something that will tell me everything there is to know about the xbox? (hopeful thinking)

The disc are signed by Microsoft, even if you don’t have the key it would be possible to run unsigned code via an exploit which is what happened with the Xbox 1. However on the 360 there has only really been one major exploit which was patched by Microsoft before the majority of people even knew about it.

Your best reading the Xbox-Scene forums to learn about the technical side of the 360.

Hmm I bet it is possible somehow but no one has figured it out. There is a way to do everything!

    Dude

Man you must be thinking like me,lol! I just posted basically the same thing in the general chat section. There must be a way. I am not modding or flashing my Xbox lest I void the warranty. Where there is a will there is a way. Keep thinking as I will be as well. Lemme know if you come up with anything. Peace. ^_^

I got to thinking about this too. Maybe it would be possible with the NXE update. Seeing how most game are over 4.7Gigs (Standard Blank DVD). Maybe if you borrowed a game and Downloaded it to the 360's HDD then possibly made a disc to specifically boot up the game? I might be getting somewhere...*-)

No one's ever going to figure that out. That's one thing microsoft will never leak out.

People said that about the GameCube then along came the Phantasy Star Exploit.

The 360 has much better security than the GameCube and can be patched via Xbox Live so it will be a lot harder, but not impossible.

I'm not familiar with the exploit in Phantasy Star, although most people never even knew that it came out for Gamecube.

You modify the DNS settings in the games network options to the IP address if your pc, then launch a program on your pc that acts as a fake server, when you click online play on the game it connect to your pc which sends a GameCube program across and Pahntasy Star launches it.

This GameCube program can be software to stream GameCube ISO from your pc to the Cube, a memory card manager, emulator or program that boots burned games.

All that’s in the past now as in the end someone managed to create a modchip, but before that it was quite a break through. You can probably still find some information about this if you Google.

i've been thinking if microsoft can make the discs why can't we. if someone could get their hands on the hardware and software microsoft uses to make 360 games they could distribute the software. maybe microsoft just uses a normal disc drive or maybe they just mess with the laser or something. maybe microsoft just uses normal drive and everything but just have certain discs with the unreadable part already on there and the hologram already on there an d they just send the disc out to the companies and they burn it and add the label. theres a world of possibilities and remember if they can be made they can always be remade. I mean just look at the ps1 and all the stuff they figured out. I mean it was as easy as a couple swiches or you could buy a boot disc. what stops the hackers of today from making a boot disc for the 360.

360 games are digitally signed by Microsoft, you would have to work out the algorithm Microsoft use to sign games to be able to run your own code / backups on a 360 with no modification what so ever.

It wouldn’t be impossible but honestly the chances of the 360 ever booting burned games without some sort of modification or taking advantage of an exploit are probably next to none.

The DVD drives on the 360 can be flashed to boot burned games anyway, I would personally love an exploit that would allow unsigned code to be run so we can have Xbox Media Centre 360.
